Hi all,
Great informative forum, I have been floating around these pages for a couple of years now and finally made an account.

I have a question, I have been playing PF for over a year now and really love the game. Playing against AI aircraft is good but easy ! I often go online with HL but then the players on there are just amazing !
What I want to ask is, is there a dogfight flying school or somebody who is willing to give up a small amount of there time to teach me the rope's i.e split- ess, yo-yo, energy management etc. I just cant seem to get a kill online, whenever I get close to a kill I always seem to push the aircraft to far and stall/spin and by the time I recover the aggressed become the aggressor and yea you know the rest http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif !
Anyhow, thanks for reading this and any replies would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks.

Occasionally, you'll find someone willing to show you the ropes, but there are no quick and easy lessons. Sometimes the concept of the maneuver are easy to learn and hard to master.

The best, and quickest method is joining a squad with people of a similar mindset to you and who offer on-going training.

Fly on some of the servers with a few of the squads to gauge their member's attitude, skillset etc. Visit their websites if they have them.

Sometimes it can be as easy as just asking...

Thanks very much for the quick reply, I have asked questions on some servers but rarely get an answer.
Will just have to keep asking I guess, http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

thanks again !

Hey,
You might try the VMF215 server. Often have training sessions that you may be able to join in a session or two. I can guarantee that they will answer your questions.

Pick up a book titled "Fighter Combat"
by Robert Shaw.
Its a bit dry, but the basics apply to sims just as much as real life.

Learn to apply the techniques that book describes as they fit your plane type and practice.

jonno102, as WWSensei stated, the best way to go about this is to join or 'hook' up with an established squad.

However, I would be willing to share some training time with you if you would like.
I am the founder and CO of the Schwarz Teufel Staffel, a small but competative group.

I think after a couple of short sessions we could probably hammer through some things that would help you.

First and foremost though, it would best to meet you on comms sir. Hopefully you have Teamspeak loaded.

If interested just contact me at re_ac@msn.com

cheers,

Hi there Jonno102,

You realise that this is the start for you of a truely addictive passtime or even a way of life http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Do a web search with strings like "air combat manouver", "fighter tactics" I am sure that these links will start you on the right path.

Be patient,
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif
You need to master several skills,

Aircraft energy, are you puzzled how you lost the initiative did you turn too hard were you too slow etc

If you spin & stall practice in your preferred a/c offline fly as slow as you can, but learn to recover from a stall again be patient try out combinations of rudder flaps throttle

Situational awareness, with bigger online servers you need to be very aware of the location intention and speed of all aircraft close enough to do harm to you I'd say 2km or closer. If you are slow you are dead, if you are low you will soon be dead. If low and slow then http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

You need to learn the different attribute of the a/c on line FW109 kills in a straight line at high speed, Dont get into a turn fight with a Zero in a FW.

Do Not let anyone get on your tail, if you see an LA7 close on your 6 he is unlikely to go away as he has a good speed. You need to use turning rolling and stalling tactics to try to force him in front of you then shoot him quick.

Above all be patient

record some online action try to spot where and why you were downed.

Can you spot a lead turn

When you decide to attack be double aware of enmey, you intintion is clear you will be tagged from at least 1.5 km and next thing the bandit has dived on you ripped your wings off and you float down to the ground in a parachute if not shot or blown up in your aircraft.

Errr I could go on, by all means visit the forum at www.omegaknight.org (http://www.omegaknight.org) post some specific questions or fly on the OMK server at HL if I am online will check out anyone invading OMK airspace http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

My HL name is OMK_Jacko not the deadliest killer in the air ping me next time u see me I am in the uk As STS_Predator said get voice comms like Teamspeak or Ventrillo, you will find the dedi servers have TS running and you can join in voice chat.

Enjoy the game and give up your social life

Salute!
OMK_Jacko

oh i should add a good pilot will kill less skilled pilots in so called inferior a/c so if you are tonking around in a Yak3P and get tagged by a P40 or I-16 dont't feel bad LEARN THE LESSON
