Sorry little offtopic but I always wanted to know wether MS CFS2 was good PTO sim or not. I can grab it in my area for about 20 US$. I know it won't beat IL2 but is it still worth it?

It's ok if you can stand the disastrous flight & damage model and the low res terrain textures at low altitude. The 3rd party aircraft models are said to improve the flight models considerably, though I've not tried them myself, but there is practically no protection from people using models with UFO like capabilities in online games.

I would have to agree with tully. I personally didnt enjoy cfs 2 at all. I may have played it for a total of 1 hour. in compairison I still play eaw both online and off line. I hated the damage and flight model of cfs 2 that bad. hey for 20 bucks pic it up and make up your own mind. if you dont like it, it probably wont be the first time you blew 20 bucks :P

I know...I used to see people flying F-22's...and more often than not planes with no wings...

Never knew why they bothered...like cheating at golf.

Spend some time at AvHistory.org and download the 1% a/c. They make CFS2 worthwhile for a change of pace. Be sure to modify the default a/c by renaming the appropriate 1% folders (and texture files if you wish).

CFS2 is a great game and the graphics are even better. I flew it online for about 2 years and with practice you can get quite good at it. The challenges of team-play are second to none (if you like turn&burn), which I do. The campaign is alot of fun and I spent many hours in it. Carrier landings with a wounded a/c are a challenge and rewarding. Just approach it as a game and you will have fun with it. If you are looking for realism then FB is the best there is.

Avoid CFS3 (it's crap)

I built this for CFS2 and FS2002. Am working on a CFS3 version. If a friend who has 3ds MAX could convert it for me from gmax, I could try sending to Oleg...

Avi, wait until you can find CFS2 for a lower price. The graphics are nice, but it cannot hold a candle to IL-2 in any way shape or form. It is less a simulator and more a game, highly vulnerable to modified super planes that just ruins online play. I trashed CFS as soon as Il-2 came out.

That was the biggest selling point to the CFS series, the architecture was open-ended. Over the years there have been some great add-on aircraft created for the Microsoft Sims.

I built the jet, a Focke-Wulf Ta-183 Huckebein. Those arent Lancs. Those are the stock B-24s. They are just at a really low res because I was zoomed out too far...I later cropped the image.
