Hi, For a long time i am flying sims, but a B-24 Liberator I did never see,(Only European air war had one). Are there enough people amongst you that will see a B-24 realised?I want to honour all the airman that once flew them and suffered a lot in that magnificant plane over Europe and Far-East.They never got the attention ( which they deserve) of the grand public for their heroism!

The B-24 Modeling Team says that they are indeed doing the pits and gunnery stations.
Let's all chip in & help out. I'm scoureing the net to day looking for detailed line drawings. and photos.
the line drawings are VERY important.A MUST HAVE.
So lets get to work.! I've found a few detailed drawings and i'm putting them in a file and sending them to the team today. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'd love to see a B-24 in FB. My only reservation is that the high-altitude flight model and graphics are a bit suspect and having B-24s and B-17 operating below 5 km to get into the best part of the game's engine just wouldn't feel right.

The Dec. 1981 issue of Wings (Vol. 21, No.6) had a ~40page special on the B-24. Lots of photos.

I just happen to have access to the interior of a B-24 as well as owning a very good digital camera. If I can help with some interior photos or the like, let me know.

oh, it's flyable too. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Agreed t-bolt if you've got a dig camra & access to a b-24 go grab as many pictures as you can! close up details of the turret interiors.. cockpit ...dash.. flight controls....gunnery positons... landing grear.... any thing and every thing. i have a picture of the instrument pannel and a list of what all the instuments are ... but the picture is black and white and some color pics would be of great use!
lol my camera holds 100 pics on 1 memory card. lol
so snap away and send them to the team.

Not all US bombers were only used high alt. Pacific. B-17's were used in groups of 1 escorted by 4-6 P-38's in low level bombing runs against shipping and airports.

In the Med, B-24's made low level bombing runs to Ploesti. With a significant loss rate. Later, the P-38 was used to level bomb Ploesti. The only known time a fighter was ever used to level bomb. The flight of 200 P-38's was assisted by a special glass nose P-38 with a norden bomb sight and a bombadeer.

The first "drop-snoot" P-38s were used in the ETO, being converted from P-38Js. They lead formations of regular P-38s carrying 2000lb bombs who dropped on the "drop-snoot's" command.

The ETO is not the Med.

Great news!

I contacted the owner and am scheduled to show up on Friday the 17th to take high-res pics of the B-24 to my heart's content. (internal/external...whatever I want!).

I'll post a few here when I get them, but because of the high resolution it would probably be better to copy them to a disc and forward them to the proper person. PM me with the appropriate address or email so we can make the mailing arrangements.

This guy has over 130 vintage aircraft restored in almost new condition and many more in the works ranging from WWI Morane's to late WWII Spits (I've got pics of most /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

In the meantime, here's an older pic of the same "Libby" I'll get up close and personal with next week.

WOOT! I am jazzed myself!

In the course of rebuilding a spitfire + hurricane i came across the company shown below, we used them to get re-print drawings of a few items we were missing during our restoration. They have thousands of drawings all archived onto CD-ROM's mainly of Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster, but i know that just recently they added 25,000 B24 drawings to their database. I am not sure how helpful the drawings will be to modellers because a lot of drawings are of single components such as brackets. But in the general assembly category there is probably some very usefull drawings giving incredibly accurate overview images.

I posted a link over in the netwings dev forum also. Hopefully we can get this bird flying.

...and yes, a flight is a definite possibility. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

While your there, ask the guy if you can snap some photo's of the performance data charts, that would definitly be a big plus in getting the flight modeling done right. Also the flight manual should have great drawings and detailed diagrams of what go's where in the cockpit.

Hopefully they have the written docs. I'll check on that as well. Good idea. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

T-Bolt make sure you get interior shots of the tail Turret & Ball turret interiors. also would be nice to know if that b-24 used the same Sperry Ball Turret as the B-17's. From what i can tell that does seem to be the case.
In an email i got yesterday from the team there was a nicce looking render still in the early stages but it's a A libby that's for sure! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Also it look like they are going to use the Emmerson Turret In the front nose. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

O.K. I'm making notes on some questions and info to gather.

1. Sperry ball turret?
2. manuals/performance figures
3. Bombsight pics
4. Gunner positions pics

Don't worry about the different positions. I'll get them all. I may even go get an additional 128 MB compactflash card. (The one I have will hold 100 pics at 1600x1200 res)
