Hi Matt,
many people have problems with hosting at ubi.com from behind a router.

The "Hosting via Router Problem" was introduced beginning of August due to the 1.1b patch. Hosting from within a private network via router at ubi.com WAS POSSIBLE before August, since then it is no longer possible, even with the original 1.0 version.

Without changing their network configuration people were no longer able to host since that day.

The hosting problem at ubi.com also affects people using ICS or with more than 1 network card installed.

Reported the Hosting via Router Problem to Ubi Tech Support, but still no respons. Some people even called Ubi Tech Support, but answer is, it's not ubi.

On the other hand hosting from within a private network via router works fine at Hyperlobby or with direct IP in Multiplayer mode.

With the newly released Dedicated Server this issue become even more important, since the Dedicated Server is supposed to run at ubi.com only. A dedicated server, however, typically runs on a separate CPU from within a local network connected to the internet via router. Due to the hosting problems at ubi.com the Dedicated Server becomes just useless for many people.

As the Dedicated Server promisses to be a major improvement for IL-2 FB please check with your staff to resolve the hosting problems at ubi.com.

Dont let your customers feel left alone.

They are looking into it. The problem seems to be with NAT firewalls but that's just my opinion. I ransome tests on UBI with a few different set ups with the same results. I just got back from a business trip and will still be tied up all weekend so I won't be able to even start to work on it again until early next week.

Hunter82, happy to know you back and thanks for keeping track of the hosting problem.

When registering a normal IL-2 host or registering the Dedicated Server the local IP of the host/server is send to the ubi.com game service, which is wrong. This is regardless the internal/external settings within the ubi.com network options. Instead the external IP of the router should be send.

You probably have already verified this using a IL-2 client outside the local network of the host/server. After joining via ubi.com and getting the timeout error, quit the IL-2 FB client and look at the conf.ini file of the client's "IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles" folder.

The entry "remoteHost=" will show the internal IP of the host/server, which is wrong and the reason for the timeout. It should contain the router's external address of the host/server's network.

Whatever the reason is for this behaviour, it is not at the users (host/server) side. Without any changes to their network configuration many people could no longer host since the day IL-2 FB 1.1b patch was introduced.

So something MUST have changed, either the ubi.com client or ubi.com game service at ubi or both or the network environment at ubi or whatever it is. It is pretty obvious that the reason is to be found at ubi.

BTW Hunter, you are doing a tremendous job, much appreciated.

Take a rest a the weekend.

Why did we not get a dedicated server package that we could host a game anywhere? This is stupid! Ok, some of you hackers get to work and fix the server software. Thanks in advance.

I have a couple of questions in with Tech Support relating to this issue and hosts disappearing from UBI without a reason. No response from them after a couple of days

We have got a server running on UBIcom that is only visible for a few hours then it dissapears. (server is stil running though)
That means it is no good to anyone as, even though the server is still up and running, nobody can join the darn thing if we cant see it, as we all know direct ip is not an option.
I have posted everywhere asking for an explanation on this but had no response as yet.
We are going to ditch the DS software now and use the game instead that does allow for ip connections and hosting wherever we want it.
This is very frustrating indeed.
I dont care really where the hell we have to host the thing (although it would be very nice if it could be anywhere) but if we are being forced to host at UBI, can somone from UBI game service please explain why the eck the server is not visible.

This is Not good... My ISP announced it was serving a Server now that the Ded server has been out but you can only connect to it once a day for a few hours as then it dissapears off the face of the Internet ..even though server is still running.

Come on Ubisoft.. This sort of shoddy app doesnt help the Flight sim community. It's hard enough trying to get ISPs to host Servers let alone ones that need constant restarts

Yup got the same prob, server visible for a few hours then POOF, gone, not visible on UBI and the server is still up and running.
Only a complete restart of the server sorts it out and this is not an option as the server is remote in another cityhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Our server does something similar, its random but every now and then it disapears from Ubicom. Although the server still seems to be running.

The most annoying thing is we are paying for a server machine to run FB on but when Ubicom goes down we cant play on our server, HL would be better!

Has any one raised the disappearing server issue with tech support?

If not I suggest that this is done, whilst the forums are good I doubt if anyone from tech support will read here.....

Just a thought.

Also try PM'ing Matt, after raising an issue on the support page.

You never know.

Yup our server also dissapeared of ubi all the time.
Luckily someone has come up with a simple way of saying 'screw ubi game service and the lack of support'

Go here and take a look.
It works really well
http://wildhoney.nightmail.ru/il2fb/

Our server is up and running now without ubi game service using the dedicated server software and allows for direct ip conections. Works like a charm.

Also keep your eyes on a post in this forum
http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view-topic.asp?name=us_il2sturmovik_gd&id=yxvgc

All we need to do is sort out the remote access now.
Has anyone got the remote console working ????

There is a remote console available from Wildhoney,

Shame on you Ubi, that people have to invest hours and hours just to realize that the Ubi Game Service does not work as expected.

Shame on you Ubi, for people having to do some smart programming to bypass the Ubi Game Service in order to get your products working (Dedicated Server).

Shame on you Ubi Tech Support for not answering at anything.

Also PMed Matt "Wags" Wagner, but nor response.
