What is "Nepenthe"?

I'm not even sure the word is Finnish, but it's the name of a song by Sentenced, so I'm just kinda assuming.

Ok, I was wrong. Sorry, but here is what i found:

1.A drug mentioned in the Odyssey as a remedy for grief.

2.Something that induces forgetfulness of sorrow or eases pain.

Nepenthe

\Ne*pen"the\, n. [Fr. Gr. ? removing all sorrow; hence, an epithet of an Egyptian drug which lulled sorrow for the day; ? not + ? sorrow, grief.] A drug used by the ancients to give relief from pain and sorrow; -- by some supposed to have been opium or hasheesh. Hence, anything soothing and comforting.

Lulled with the sweet nepenthe of a court. --Pope.

Quaff, O quaff this kind nepenthe. --Poe.

WEll, the word I was thinking of was Naphtha. I was close at least. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Naphtha

Any of several highly volatile, flammable liquid mixtures of hydrocarbons distilled from petroleum, coal tar, and natural gas and used as fuel, as solvents, and in making various chemicals.

Thanks. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Given the band, it makes perfect sense for it to mean that. lol

I didn't even bother to google it because I just assumed it was a Finnish word for something, since the band is from Finland.

Thanks again. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

That would be called Napalm

"Of all my accomplishments I may have achieved during the war, I am proudest of the fact that I never lost a wingman. It was my view that no kill was worth the life of a wingman. . . . Pilots in my unit who lost wingmen on this basis were prohibited from leading a [section]. They were made to fly as wingman, instead."
