One thing SH3 blew it on was the use of Sloops. They called the Black Swan a Frigate when it is actually a Sloop and they didn't bother to include the earlier similar classes.
Why is that bad? I am glad you asked!
Sloops were the ship designed to be cross ocean convoy escorts. They were usually with the early convoys along with old DD like the worn out V&W class.
Sloops had less fighting power and were slower than DDs but had better habitability and much longer range meaning the could make the whole trip (DDs usually had to leave to refuel).
Their absence ******ed the accuracy of the early convoys and was why I advised Jason to add them to his improved convoys (by adding the early names and dates to the Black Swan class names and editing them into the convoys) and why one of the first things I suggested to Seawolves was to modify the Black Swan and make the Grimsby, Egret and Bittern class sloops and use them in the early convoys.
While these are not major conversions they nonetheless came out nice, IMO. Here are screens of 2 of the classes in the Mediterranean add-on.

In the face of the deafening silence [boycott?] I'll say those are nice looking ships. Now, this expansion you are using, is this supported in an ongoing manner, i.e. patches and updates, or is it a one-off purchase? Can you install this add-on and then mod your game? I'm assuming it would be possible. Does this add other content or just newer ships?

It adds a whole lot of content and while many things are improved over stock many still will have most modders modding this. I (hope they are not reading this) mod my add on using my sounds (although they have made some interesting stuff) and certain textures like Bismarck's and little things I like better, Das Boot pictures for the men in the screen lower left. SW can not use mods without permission (some refuse to believe that) so they make their own new stuff.
Many ships that are pretty good are being deleted and complete new models are being made, very nice stuff, very nice.
Hopefully there will be no patches required but there will certainly be a desire to release in a timely manner and we all know how easy it is to not know a particular situation causes a problem but we never ran into it so don't know it.
I stopped playing my SH3 and have been running nothing but 23rd Flotilla patrols out of Salamis, Greece and a few in the Black Sea. Constanza is the nicest port in the game, IMO, or at least the most believable.
In the Atlantic it loses one of the French ports to make the Greek one. The Scharnhorst and Gneisenau missions are in the campaign.
The Med convoys are smaller but more frequent and the Luftwaffe shows up like they are on call waiting for you to report a target. Watching the ships fight off air attacks is very cool. There are many small task forces running around but I have not been lucky enough to see British and Italian cruisers going at it.
I knew this was going to be a good add on for the majority that do not mod but I also believe there is so much content many skeptics will be secretly getting this as well.
I have already modded my Rnd.mis file to have more escorts and high crew ratings for tougher fighting, just my preference

As an example this model is being replaced by a totally new Arethusa class CL and I thought this was pretty good!
