View Full Version : Leakage

I just thought about it and realized I've been proceeding along the premise that this leak was semi-deliberate - a way to get any errors the beta team may have missed in the run up to full release.

I think partly I think this because I just find it hard to believe someone who was selected to Beta test would violate their agreement and leak it. I work in a business that requires confidentiality - and used ot work in one that required even more. If my boss asked me not to discuss something I kept a lid on it until he told me different. Oftentimes this meant long after I heard other people talking about it - and he'd forgotten - I'd have to go ask him if it was okay for me to talk. I mean really - it's about giving your word and keeping it - and abiding by your own standards: not everyone elses.

How many Beta testers are there and how long do they have to iron out all the problems?
How do you get to be a chosen one ?

What made me question this is threads that discuss the fms being locked.
Maybe it really was a leak.

Nagual, a noble intention to say the least, but the fact of the matter is that betas have been leaked since IL2 was in development. Most people seem to think the agreement only matters if they make money off of the beta or give it to the developer's direct competitors./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have a bud who has ICQ transcript from a conversation with a squad member who was willing to send him the IL2 beta. This falls under the "honor in the light" appearances of some squadrons/people.

They claim to be one thing, while pirating the beta to their squadmates and whoever else they see fit and attempted to gain a huge advantage over the rest of the world, who had to wait for the game to be released to start practicing their skills.

This was evident in certain squads hitting the ground running when the game was released. However, I've noticed FB has opened a whole different ball game and the same top squads in IL2 are not necessarily tops in FB nowadays./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'm just making a point, I don't care either way, because I'll just wait for the offical release and do my homework then. Beta, schmeta.

At one point one of our squaddies was a beta tester. None of us ever saw the beta - just a few inticing screenshots!
This was for Il2 - before the demo.

Back in Janes things got pretty competitive - interestingly in this simm there is no substitute for real skill. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif FMs are too precise for the kinds of exploits we saw in janes. (then there's that 4,000 horsepower P38 I threw together one day /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif )

I agree.

Since there is obviously an opening for a beta tester at Ubisoft ( LOL ) I just want to say that I'm availble.

I'd like to give that a try as well.

I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

Yeah, there were some interesting cheats in Jane's. A couple not detectable by HyperLobby./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

However, you're right. In an honest game, your skill made the day or got you killed. FB has taken it so much farther. I went back and played a little Jane's and was kind of dismayed at the arcade shooting and flight models compared to FB. However, I have to say those 3D models made back in the late 90's, still hold up as quite an ahievement and still look awesome in that opening movie.

Not that I didn't have a blast at the time, but it seems being skilled at FB takes so much more practice than it took to be awesome at Jane's, hehe./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
