I was just wondering are they ever going to add Torpedo Bombers to Pacific Fighters. If anyone has some info please let me know.

Thanks for all your efforts guys.

I assume from your question that you are relatively new to this sim and these forums, as this was covered, ad nauseum, in many an acrimonious thread.

Suffice to say the TBF Avenger and the Devastator will never see the light of day in this sim as flyables, due to trademark restrictions. Based on several tidbits of information released by the developers, the Kate may make it in future releases.

Until then, the Betty, the A-20, and the Beaufighter are flyable, and have torpedoes available in their loadouts. The Kate and the TBF are there as AI birds now, and can be outfitted with torpedoes for use in Coop and offline missions/campaigns.

The IL-2T http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Dont forget the H8K1 Flying Boat (AI), and the He-111H-6 (flyable if you have a merged install) for torpedo ops http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It's not wise to pound the ground with torpedos. Those tend to work better in the water.

Heh, I dunno about that... They make one helluva bang when dropped accidently http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
A while back I accidently released my torp while waiting to take off.
The resulting blast destroyed everything and everyone around me.... to this day im still picking bits of shrapnel out of my freckle http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yes, the He-111H-6!

It carries two torpedoes! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

The more I think about it, the less worried I am about getting torpedo planes. Why? Dropping a torpedo is possibly the most unrealistic thing in the whole sim! You can drop any torp from any altitude at any speed and it will function normally! Heck, you can even drop them on land and they will explode every time!

Until that little problem gets recified, having planes that can drop torps is kind of moot to me since the need to use proper techniques and tactics will not come with them.

Already been fixed. You tried it lately?

Hmm... just tried it. You have to drop from the correct altitude and from level flight only or the torp will just blow up, but you can still go as fast or slow as you want. It's definitely an improvement, though -- no more torpedo dive bombing for sure.

I really wish the He111 could drop those torps one at a time....

i would just like torpedos to work after u are shot down, in mp games its just stupid to use them unless targets have no aa since well your not likely to live long enough for it to hit.

I just realised I had not tried torps since 4.01!

I stand corrected! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

However, I've heard of Japanese (on Okinawa, I think) using torpedoes dug into the ground as highly destructive anti-tank mines. One tank that one of such mines was completely destroyed and the entire crew killed...
