I got it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

But http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

I need some help. I copied the conf.ini from PF and pasted one over there. I have transfered my user files and get my pilot and setup. I transfered all the files from the mission/campaign directory that are in dgen- directories and those sure look like my current campaigns.

When I go into the game my name appears and everything seems to be working right but when I click on pilot career there are no campaigns except for starting a new one.

?

Thanks

Are you getting 'single missions' and 'campaigns' mixed up? Single misions: you shouldn't be asked to start new ones, this option is only available in the 'campaign' mode.

Check that they are in the right folders. I did a complete re-install onto a new computer after I bought the complete edition, everything works fine.

You said you copied the files from the dgen folder, you need also to copy the files in the MISSIONS folder - BOTH the campaign folder and the Single Missions (called simply 'Single') folder.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Nope.

Hmm... I compared the single folder and of course the DVD version has a bunch more stuff but just comparing the 3 that appear in PF nothing is different based on a statistical analysis, meaning I didn't check every file... I have not created any single missions and only campaigns by selecting pilot career and creating one - a campaign. Don't know a thing about QMB or FMB but with FMB paint me utterly confused.

Hopefully this will provide a clue... I just found out that the campaigns.ini file was 3kb instead of the 9kb in PF. Gee wiz, think that might a be a problem? I copied and pasted that into the DVD version and yes, relaced the file and it said 9kb. I opened up the game and same old story. I shut down the game and checked the file and found it changed back to 3kb... ???

I am starting to think there is another file keeping track of what is in the mission directories and my simple copy doesn't cover that? This is PF versus the DVD version...

Try posting the question on the 'community help' forum, they will know:

I did so and dropped your name... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

In any case I am mixed up in how I am presenting my problem so I did edit my posts for accuracy... if that provides more clarity to a solution I look forward to it!

Oh ya... Grrrrrrrrr

Unlike PF this version is disc locked - gotta have it in the PC to start the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

campaigns.ini appears to be a symptom rather than a possible solution. If I openthe game and do not select anything and close it the file remains at 9kb. It only changes when I click on pilot career and so far I have exited and not created the first career. That ceates this 3kb file that has nothing but a long string of zeros versus my old 9kb file having data of any value. On top of that the game ships without a campaigns.ini file. It just seems odd that a file that it feels it must write to for recording what you just did is not being read when you start the game... I guess that may really mean this file has nothing to do with my problem...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

As was said in 'community help' you should also copy the 'User' folder, and I will also repeat this: don't forget the 'Campaigns' folder contents that is inside the 'Missions' folder.

I just realised that you may be doing things the wrong way. I'm not thinkin straight today so anybody that thinks the following advice is wrong - please correct me.

Ok what might be wrong is that you've replaced the files in your Complete edition with the ones from your old game. ie you will have written over them and lost lots of the new stuff (missions dgen etc) that came with the new game. What you should have done is only to add the files that you wanted to keep from the old game.
I mean maybe you should have selected the exact files you wanted to keep from each folder, then copied them, then pasted them inside your Complete edition folders.

I must have done this right when I transfered my missions etc., but can't remember exactly how I did it (anybody?).

Like I say, I'm not thinking right today (tired) so excuse me if I'm wrong. (Don't act on this advice just yet).<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Actually that appears to have made it right but I am finding things wrong.

up until 20 minutes ago I did it exactly the way you describe to avoid overwriting and work with adding to. That way does not seem to work.

You said you just did this do you mean you transferred from PF v4.04 to the DVD Complete Edition v4.04 exactly like I am?

I think the big gotchya in all of this is going to be that the Complete Edition is not compatible with your old missions unless you were already using FB+AEP+PF.

Just left a post at the other site about this...

I had an easier job than you. I had the game all the way up to 4.04m merged version. I bought the Complete Edition when I got my new computer to save installing all the patches and so on. I didn't change versions.

You could be right about the files not being compatible for the Complete Edition, someone else will know (that's too technical for me).
The same goes for the conf ini file; I don't know if you can past that from PF to the Complete Edition, it might not work right.

I hope someone sorts it out. Otherwise you can always do a complete new install and play the game from the start again, even if it does mean losing your saved missions.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thanks for verifying my suspicion...

Yep, tired of playing guinea pig and ultimately how much does it really matter since most of my PF missions are near completion.

Posted some more over at that thread.

The conclusion at this time is:
If you are transferring a current install to another it needs to be not only the same version but the same build as in FB or FB+AEP or FB+AEP+PF otherwise you will lose your careers and missions. Don't delete your current version of the game until you are ready to part with your work!

Finally, I am back to driving to airplanes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

but for how long...

What's this about the 46 add on...
DVD will have:
- Forgotten Battles
- AEP
- Pacific Figthers
- Pe-2 Peshka
- Sturmoviks Over Manchuria
- '46

That is what I wanted anyway but am I going to have problems transferring missions again or has that been a smooth transition over the years?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

While the game functions just fine using the DGen.exe that comes with the DVD it does not come with a current version of DGen.exe which could cause trouble if you venture beyond your version such as downloading new missions or off line play.

Thanks to Nimits...
