when you don't fly coop missions online.

Lately it seems that very few people want to join and fly in coop missions online.

So I thought I'd post some pics and files, to give you some idea of what you are missing. This is mainly for those people who have never tried coop missions, or have been disappointed in the ones they have tried.

http://home.stny.rr.com/fw190a8red1/2.jpg

http://home.stny.rr.com/fw190a8red1/3.jpg

http://home.stny.rr.com/fw190a8red1/4.jpg

http://home.stny.rr.com/fw190a8red1/5.jpg

Here's a file which contains the coop mission, and also has a track file that you can view, to give you an idea of what a coop mission is like:

http://home.stny.rr.com/fw190a8red1/Zips.zip

Copy the ntrk file into the "records" folder. The name of it is "Strand." It is a partial track of the mission, because the full mission track turned out to be too big for me to host. It will give you some idea of what is possible in a coop. Maybe it will give someone an idea to create a similar mission.

Copy the mission files into the "\missions\net\coop" folder.

The coop mission involves a ground-attack against a large transport column, with multiple elements. Jabo FW190s, and Emils, assisted by Bf110's, pound the vehicle convoy. P39's, La-5s, and Laggs show up a bit late, with revenge on their minds.

Feel free to use the mission all you want. It is primarily a mud-moving mission, but has good air-to-air action as well. Trade-offs were made in the mission to provide both mud-moving, and aerial action. You could always open it in FMB, and modify it to your liking. For example, a person could take the above mission and modify it by changing the color of the vehicles, and having IL2's attack, or P47's, changing it into a ground-pounding mission for Red. The timing and arrival of Blue fighters, and the planes used, would have to be adjusted.

OK, I'm doing some advertising for coop missions. Why not? It seems like most people don't want to try them. They can be a lot of fun.

The track file was made when I pretended to host the mission. Whenever a coop is made, it should be tested, to see how it plays. It is actually quite enjoyable testing a coop mission, and tweaking it.

In a coop mission, you can see other plane types that you don't see in dogfight rooms. You don't have to be a top ace. Mud-moving missions are fun, and it is sufficient to hit some ground targets, and survive.

What is it that people don't like about coop missions? Some feed back for mission designers might be helpful.
I look at coops as a way to provide for the type of action you don't find in dogfight rooms.

Note: I always use good weather, to help people ID planes with icons off.

Icons are on for the posted pics, but off in the track file.

Coops are the ultimate expression of this game.

People are just too intimidated by them though, especially those just starting out.

The other problem is all the waiting to get into one without knowing what it's about. This gets frustrating when all you want to do is start flying sometimes.

I'm getting frustrated myself waiting for 15 minutes for enough players to get ready then as soon as the game launches I sometimes get an error that doesn't start up FB. Other than that FB runs pretty good and never happens joining a DF server.

The scripted DF servers are quite a decent diversion and may account for some people not bothering with coops but I have to say its just not the same adrenaline pumping action where you don't re-spawn and have to try and survive the battle.

Man, all I fly is COOP missions. It didn't take me long to get tired of the DF servers. Been that way ever since the early days of IL2.

Coops are where it's at in FB. We fly mostly coops with the 361st usually. Brunhost is just a bad memory......./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

New version of FBDaemon will have this feature as an option. Player will be kicked after a certain amount of deaths, and cant rejoin until a certain amount of time...

I would like to try them, but can never find a game, or if I do, I can't find one with a decnet ping. (I consider only less then 130 decent, since I got cable.)

Is there a possibility to fly a coop mission not being the part of a squadron?

Yep sure, you don't have to be a squad member to join one. Just join one when it's setting up, you'll see it's great.

Coops would be a HELL of a lot more fun if:There would be more people interested, there would be more missions,(except always those same old mission like fighters cover this,il2's destroy that etc.)
And If there are news light bombers like the 110,ju88,those thing.they'll make coop a hell of a lot more interesting

ping has very little to do with how good a game you are going to get

you get warp/freezes with low ping & with high ping

a worthy effort- good advertising for coop missions.
They are really what FB is all about- much more exciting than dogfights which just turn into a free for all.
Chaps just try a few- its great fun for all- if you are new to the game its a great way to learn- follow the leader of your flight, tell him u r new- he'll usually give u hints and look out for you when in the air.Coops are also the ideal place to learn teamwork and to get a heart attack- nothing worse than flying along and suddenly being pounced on by a whole flight comming out of the sun.

Just remember on take off- there are planes in front of u- look before:-)

razer3,

I agree. People should not host the same coop, but should alternate them, to keep things fresh and different.

While creating coop missions, I found out how cool the Bf110 is. Besides looking good, and different, the Bf110 is a very capable ground-pounder which can drop cluster bombs, or be fitted with a gun pod. The Bf110 can switch from ground-pounding to air combat. Instead of being chased around by fighters, like a Henschel, it can turn the tables, and take down any fighter with its powerful guns, and ability to turn. The example coop I presented has Bf110's in it, as the last pic shows.

My own personal gripe about coop missions are the ones that have truly awful weather, the kind that would ground aircraft in WW II. I much prefer ideal weather, at mid-day, so guests can concentrate on the mission, and not spend all their time trying to ID planes through fog or rain, or in the dark.

Zip

PS: don't judge a coop by the ping of the host. As I host thru a firewall, you will see a red indication. Ignore that, as it means nothing. A good firewall stops pings.

Actually, Dog Figting competition leages are the ultimate expression of this game.

Or maybe open DF's

Or maybe campaign leagues

Or maybe dedicated servers

It's all just opinion. And if no one is playing co-ops, then a majority of opinions differ from yours.

He likes co-ops though

Now that a coop space is available on the "front page" of Hyperlobby, we can hope that more people will at least try them.

I would like to hear from more people who don't like coop's, to find out the reasons for not liking them. I know I've experienced some disappointing ones. Some feedback as to what makes a good coop versus a bad one would help mission designers.

Iron Skies runs coops all week and also has a dogfight server on Sundays. I like both but prefer the dynamic nature of our coop war where we can pick and choose what targets we want to hit each time.

Coops rule because they have all the planes and much more diverse missions are available.

My favorite coop mission is trying to get a flight of TB3's across enemy territory with a small escort. The enemy greatly outnumbers the escort but they only come in small waves. It's a true test of survival and it's the one mission where I prefer to be a tail gunner.

I always much prefered the coops, they seem more like the real thing.

What I disliked was waiting to fly, there always seems to be someone who takes his/her good old time to press the fly button making everone wait & wait.Perhaps a time limit is in order?

I've always loved coops but FB ruined it for me with all the warping. 1.1b seems to have addressed that and I'm looking for good coops often now. Thanks for getting the word out! See you in HL!

People may be avoiding them out of the convenience of jumping into one of 10 or so DF's...

Or possibly the exclusionary perception of a co-op. Now that is perception I'm sure...I've done a few (and died fast as always) and I sometimes have the feeling I'm intruding. Again my own perception and I know this is mostly not the cast.
Maybe just spreading the word from the previous post that you don't need to be part of a squad.

Now, do you generally need Roger Wilco, etc?
