I just wish the dev team thought about German accents for the English voice sounds cause the american accents just kill the realism - I think I am in a US sub than a U Boat.

Shelton.

I play with English text and German voices, though my German vocabuary is at stuck at about a dozen words. I prefer the added realism feeling.

Just out of curiosity, how do you set that up?

I did this when I first started playing. I would guess that it's available from the main menu.

If it's not, the quick and dirty way to do it is to edit file \My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg and change
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">VoicesLanguage=0</pre>
to
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">VoicesLanguage=1</pre>

In the options > sound menu, there are 3 options I think. One is for Speech (the one you need), one for text and another for something else. You can switch those between English and German.

Well, I use the german voices. I did O-level german so I can understand some things.

Also, if you have seen the fil U-571 with you can imagine to be the american crew that took over that german sub....Even Jon Bon Jovi was in that film!!

I would rather listen to American accents than stupid Hollywood cliched "Germlish". But I use German speech anyway. I remember enough of my school German to understand what they say.

Copy and save in your humor collection:

The European Commission have just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5 year phase in plan that would be known as "EuroEnglish": --

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c".. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favor of the "k". This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with the "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent "e"'s in the languag is disgrasful, and they should go away.

By the 4th yer, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer.

ZE DREM VIL FINALI *** TRU!!

If your worried about realism use the German voices. It doesnt make sense to me why a German whoes suppoused to be speaking German would have an accent. I just pretend their speaking German and I can understand it. If I spoke German I'd use the German language but how realistic is it for a capt. not to be able to understand whats being said.

I was actually hoping for female voices...those female voices that are just the right pitch and depth to be considered **** secksy.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

can someone mod the crew so that they're bikini-clad chicks? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

ok, so its not the "true experience"--but neither is sinking cruisers in my boxers while drinking my fifth Coke of the day at 6am. Least I hope that's not how it was. That'd be odd.

its the small details again that make or break a game like this.and with all due respect to our american cousins,we certainly need a mod for this one
the german voices are only average in my opinion,
i think i would rather have english(english english) crew voices than the default ones
either that or a good german english mod,or even a good german german mod
then again i hardly play this game anymore so what does it matter to me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

I have to play with the german voices enabled. Playing with the Yank effects on totally destroys the atmosphere for me. I don't mean that as an insult either, since we Canadians don't sound any different!

Hehe well, I'll make an admission: there are Canadians that talk like that. But they're the equivalent to the rednecks you have down south! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Mein Deutsche ist nicht so gut! But I believe some things are not right in the German either. I would think a reasonable German accent in English would be better than the surfer dudes but since I can understand most of the German I went with that better feeling of being on a U-Boat.
The German in Medal of Honor was aside splitter!!!
I thought U-571 was a fun movie, like Star Wars, The Lion King and other fantasy pictures. The subs were bad enough for what happened but a German destroyer far out in the Atlantic and a bf-109 as well. Surprised they didn't show the Graf Zepplin as the 109s base!!! Imagine the size of the drop tank that must have had!!
I love the crash dive in RUB1.3. I wish there was more of that for other stuff. Iam sure the gang will come up qith a few more things to improve the sounds

For the English voices, they should use real Germans, speaking English. Thus, the accent will be perceptible, without it being the typical "over-the-top-Hollywood-exaggeration", nor having the crew sound like americans.

Too bad John Banner, who played Sgt. Schultz in Hogan's Heros, isn't alive.

They could have used him for the voice of the sonar man in version 1.3:

"I know nuhthink! I see nuhthink!"

I just play with the German voices and the English text. That way if they say something I cant translate off the top of my head I have the text as back up.
