View Full Version : It's Easy To Switch Between 4.04m & 4.05m

I know there is some debate\confusion about the Pe-2 addon at the moment. In case some of you are not aware, it is easy to switch between versions 4.04m and 4.05m.

Before you install 4.05m, save a copy of the 'files.SFS' file from your 4.04m folder. (If you didn't save it, you could always get it again from the 4.04m patch.) After you install the Pe-2 addon, you can switch between versions simply by swapping that one file. It's easy as that.

So, if some of your favorite servers have updated to 4.05m but some have not, you can go back and forth as many times as you want.

Really?Well then does anyone want to borrow me a 4.05m 'files.SFS'? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

carguy, aside from being very naughty, that wouldn't work as there's a whole load of other content in the other installed folders (skins, missions, blah de blah) which the 4.05 files.sfs file "references". Moving back to the 4.04 just ignores the new stuff, but 4.05 would need it to run!

That's true.

Carguy, you misunderstood my post. You would still need to install the Pe-2 addon files.

My tip was just to show people how to switch between the two versions.

Aviar is correct. this is the method we have used since il-2 came out. install the new addon, just keep a copy of your 4.04m "files.sfs" file around and just drop it in your IL-2 directory when you want to play 4.04 or put the new files.sfs file to play the 4.05 version.

ThanKs...Good tip. I have several whole versions of the game on a the same computer (with a nearly full hard drive http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif). This will save me from doing that (I'll still backup for a while though for safety's sake).

The link that GOZR posted makes it easier to swap files...I use it myself.

The only thing is that you don't need to "... unzip all your pe2 files into this folder..." (as stated in that post).

You only need to the two SFS files and you are all set (the files will load faster this way too).

Might I suggest sticky up this thread?

Thanks Aviar, I would like to know which files are included in this add-on. I already know from your post that the files.sfs is one of them. Any others?? I may have trouble sincve I run Win98SE.

I have the files DL'd on a friend's PC, since he has XP but I've yet to burn it onto a CDR and try it on my PC. I already know that the Booty thingy would not DL the file, this is why I put DL'd it to another PC with XP on it. I just hope I can extract the neccesary files somehow and get them on my PC's PF/FB install.

That won't happen. Someone might bump the thread up after a couple of months though. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Personally i have 2 shortcuts on my windows screen, PF4.04 and PF 4.05. ( not entire game, just a SFS file, ) all i have to do is dubble click on one of them and the game changes version. Very easy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

How about just selling in box form and letting new players come into this arena.

EASIEST WAY for online...

have the game installed twice...just copy the game to another area. upgrade one to 405

NOW all you do is hold down the shift and control buttons simultaneously while logging on to hyper lobby. H.L. will find both versions you click the one you wish to fly with while in hl. then shut down hl and do it again to switch back and forth ad infinitim and you dont need to move stuff around

The easiest way is with those two batch files. You just double click on the version you want to run before starting the game.

Whoever made it: http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Definately NOT the easiest way RedDeth. Your way would take up an extra 3+Gigs of space on my hard drive. Plus I would have to shut down HL everytime I want to switch.

With my way and a Batch file on my desktop to switch the sfs files, all I do is a simple double click on my batch file shortcut on my desktop to change versions and its done instantly.

Here the thread to do so:

This way you have to come out of HL before you switch versions.

That means you didn't try Coasties trick. You should. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Just two little files to download.

I understand how copying these small files alows you to chose which version of the game that will load, but how does that work on HyperLobby? When I enter a server in HL the game loads, and the version loaded seems out of my control.(I usually first join HL, chose a server, and the game starts up).

If I Started the (FB)game first and had to exit to change files I would lose Force Feedback on the joystick (it does this if I Alt+ tab or similar).
