View Full Version : Flying Dutchman

Recently, I've had a destroyer and corvette on
seperate occasions, appear out of the dark
without any warning from my radar or watch
crew. Even when they've been spotted and we've
safely submerged, they still don't show up as
contacts etc.....What gives? They usually ping
a few times and then motor on over the horizon.
They're almost like ghost ships!

Similar, but slightly different, I have seen grey symbols for sunk ships. Does that indicate a ship sunk but not previously identified? The last one I got was left there after I attacked a convoy at night. I'd used a FAT torpedo and shot it in the general direction of the convoy, so I had no idea which ship it would hit. Most of the convoy were only picked up on hydrophones and never actually seen.

I recently had a "Flying Dutchman" of an Elco Torpedo Boat in the English Channel - it was wrecked by the sea conditions, but showed up as a greyed wreck on my map.

Don't "kill" a Flying Dutchman. I torp'd a Destroyer (C-Class) that was experiencing the Flying Dutchman phenomonen; one of the few ways I've found so far to make SH3 crash to desktop.
