So how about an interesting system xD:

we all know that regular combo/singleplayer stuff wouldn't work for obvious reasons - but how about making it similar but slightly more interesting - ie. a system where your timing actually matters - there's that specific and exact timing you have to press attack again to perform a combo - if you miss that timing - you hit "button 0" before or after the perfect mark - and the opponent's counter is more accurate, you lose some hp, etc. xD (followed by cool animations obviously). And a cool down on defence - for example: 1 second block, 0.5 second cool-down or so.

You would have to adapt regarding your ping - and I realize that this simply sounds like a "luck of the draw" kinda thing, but I dunno, it's only an idea - or a concept for something awesome xD.
