I FINALLY managed to get my butt off a carrier deck and back onto it twice in a row without going for an "unexpected swim" or getting run down by my own carrier in the process. Wow, mamma and Halleylooya!!!! Phew what a game.

Flying those ww2 warbirds is so difficult and so realistically depicted in this game!

You should try out my squadron's carrier qualification training pack out!

To pass you need to pass three missions. First you take off and land once in a certain aircraft. The second mission requires you to take off and land twice without damaging the aircraft. Now the third mission, you need to take off and land an aircraft five times on a moving carrier deck in succession, again without any damage.

But here's the kicker, the aircraft in the third mission does not have a tail hook!!

If you wanna try it out, you can download them here:

Did U.S. carriers during WWII use a barrier system to recover damaged aircraft like they do today?

What is your squadron's nickname? "The Flying Masochists"? Wow, I'm so NOT ready for that. I may download and give it a whirl but not before I'm much more comfortable then I am now. 5 times with NO Tailhook? Are you s**tin' me?

No problem there really. Just don't lower your gear and you'll be landing in no time. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Not exactly. The barriers seen today are more like giant nets, designed to stop the aircraft and hopefully keep it in one piece and repairable. During the era of the straight deck U.S. carriers, the barrier was completely different.

The barrier consisted of a pair of steel cables stretched across the deck. If an aircraft missed the arresting cables, the barrier would snag the aircraft's landing gear and the aircraft would either end up sitting on its prop or the engine would shear off and the aircraft at that point was written off. There were often two barriers, in case the aircraft made it through the first one.

That is an excellent pack Tooz. The Beaufighter took a bit of doing but now that I have done it it is a breeze. Thanks for making posting that.
