I'm truly astonished to see all the replies of folks who think modern air combat is simply point and shoot.

Missiles miss, otherwise they'd be called "hittles."

Of course, to survive, the pilot must be skilled in ECM, beaming the opponent, and doppler notching (all which will be modelled in Lo-mac).

With skilled pilots/AI at the controls, a 50 mile missile fight can turn into a close-in knife fight pretty quick.

A guns kill is the most satisfying kill not only for WWII pilots, but modern pilots, as well.

While it seems cool enough I cannot get as interested in a game where there is no dogfighting really. Heat seeking missles and stuff it not as dramatic as out manouvering your opposition.

The ground attck stuff will be cool in LOMAC I bet and will be the reason I may get it....

...if it ever comes out.....

I cant wait for it. There is way too many WW2 flight sims on the market now, not that i dont like them. Just want a change, and Lomac looks very promising.
I dont mind if they keep putting the release date farther, because i'd rather they work all the bugs out, as long as it's released period!

Im buying LOMAC just to fly the F-15 in the Quick Mission Editor all by my self, no other jets or ground units. Just me and the sky.

It will be the realism of IL-2 but with jets, best Flight Sim ever, other than IL-2 of course. But you must never compare the 2 games because their about totally different tactics and ways of flying/fighting. It would be like comparing apples and oranges...............or P-51's and F-15's.

Im Dolemite02, if you've ever shot me down in Hyperlobby just give a S!, then I'll hunt you down with every bit of skill I have to make sure you leave a nice big crater behind me.
Though it will probably be the other way around.

XyZspineZyX
07-11-2003, 05:58 AM
It may lack the pure fun of IL-2 however. Just fire the missle about 20 miles out and that's it. I could be wrong though.

SU-27's, 33's, Mig-29's, and F-15's all have cannons.

I'll be doing the same dogfighting I do in FB...only faster.

XyZspineZyX
07-11-2003, 06:38 AM
I will probably D/L and play the demo. The graphics look sweet.

But...I'll miss the stratagy of T-n-B, B-n-Z, and getting to wave to a passing foe. I'm left a little cold with the distance of fire and forget.
Mig Alley was the only jet sim that stayed on my HD for any length of time. It was like dogfighting on speed AND steriods at the same time.

Now a WW1 flight sim of IL-2's caliber, I'd be there inna hot NY minute!

Yes , because didn't bought Flanker. i have the demo , but that one didn't convinced me. Everybody said is a great game , but i stick to my falcon4. It will be really interesting to compare SP4 with Lomac , that would be really , really interesting. yes , I will buy the game , but somewhere on XMas when I plaan also to buy a new rig.

I used to play alot of jets sims back when sierra with F4 and Janes put some good products on the market (ie f-15) in 1998. Then I bought janes WWII fighters and got into props. To my great luck I had finished my education and got a job when IL2 was released, first time ever I could afford a good rig with X45, CH pedals, track-ir etc.

Now I still love FB, but felt an urge to go kneedeep into radar evaluation, techmasturbation and > mach 1.5 engagements to complement the knife in dogfighting when I first read about LO-MAC. I find it especially cool that I recognise the different features on the ground in both games and now can travel the same part of the world with both props in FB and jets in LO-MAC.

The only fear is that my once hot rig, though since then upgraded, wont stand the challenge of LO-MAC. The graphics are truly astonishing, atleast the videos that have been released...

We are in talks now how to approach this..

Dogfights are more hot and heavy in the jet age.
you can chose not to have missiles and use guns only..then try and turn & Burn !!

Considering that Lomacs predecessor Flanker 2.5 has the best dogfighting AI ever done in a sim, i am expecting lots from Lomac in the area of guns only dogfighting.

For those of you with flanker will know that 1v1 gunzo against an excellent F15 or Su27 will, without sound use of E tactics, get you killed.

I am like many other rabidly awaiting its release

I used to play jet sims a lot, but always found myself going back to WWII jobs for the sweetness of close combat and kills. You can almost smell the pilot`s fear as you bear on him.

Of course I am!/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I can see how people find modern aircombat boring compared to WWII with all the missiles and stuff, but there is an option to leave the missile armament in hangar and and take off with nothing more than a loaded gun! Dogfighting with modern fighters is fun, just as fun as dogfighting with WWII birds. I can't wait strapping myself into the MiG-29! Imagine a climbrate of 65,000ft/min! Mindblowing!

If you are a flight Sim fan you MUST buy it.. Ubi Soft has assumed the role of publisher for the Flight Sim community..and they'll produce titles if people buy them.. They've put a lot of work into LOMAC, and its got the potential to begin where Falcon 4 left off.. (prior to the aftermarket development) It certainly will not startt out as an F4 replacement, but then again Falcon has been modded and revamped for 5 years now..

I think LOMAC will be a good Sim to have, and a great baseline to produce series addons etc if Eagle/Ubi chooses to do it.. Its got a great graphics engine, and hopefully the code has been written with the future expansion in mind..

Support your hobby when you can, because if you don't, it will fall to individual developers who won't be able to afford to go the extra mile..and we'll end up playing flight sims on PS2's and XBoxes...

XyZspineZyX
07-12-2003, 10:42 PM
I don't know. I've been to the LOMAC site, and honestly, the videos don't impress me at all. Think I'll standby and wait for the forum reviews... "official" reviewers are usually full o' sh... poo.

2.1 since it came out and all i do along with all the other flanker pilots is dog fight...flanker 2.1 is as realistic in flight model as it gets ,and is by the way made by the same people thats making lomac.

With these trully fine tuned FM's dog fighting its a total rush in flanker 2.1 MORE SO THAN FB...i love IL2 and i still say that. So you people that havent tried flanker 2.1 yet for dog fighting and come here and say that dont like modern jet sims because theres no dog fighting are just well...ignorant

Then you don't know anything about positional dogfighting to get the angles on IR missile release. Especially rear axis heaters.

If you flew Flanker 2.0 you would know that there is tons of guns fighting.

Take another look at what the possibilities could be pending what is selected as the combat type.

I've flown plenty of Flanker missions where the teams selected only rear aspect heaters. They are easy to spoof and you have to be selective on how you enter the fight and when to leave or you quickly become a lawn dart.

Also, you have to know a great deal about the offensive and defensive capabilities of your opponent. When you see's you and vica versa. Sneeking up on an adversary utilizing infrared sensors so as not to expose yourself by utilizing a radar ping is really fun.

Please take a long look at this. I think you will be amazed at the options and that getting a kill is not as easy as you think.

I just can't work up too much interest in a game that has only 8 flyable planes, according to the website. I'd much rather try something like a Mirage, or early MiG, than the choices available.

I want a WWI fighter sim sooo bad, I'd rather have that then LOMAC.

Guys, if that sim lives up to expectations, is going to be awesome. Period.
That one is a further consistent step forward after FB, and this alone tells a lot.
Flight sims have to come from Moscow nowadays, apparently, as much as credible FPS' & such must originate from the Czech Republic (OFP, Mafia, Vietcong, H&D...)

My only concern is the equipment required to run it: I wouldn't like it to be all like just the "perfect" option in FB that hardly run even on the best pieces of hardware, and it has to be consistently tuned down. What have I got a Barton 2800+, a GHz PC 3200 and a 9700 Pro for, otherwise?

I too like classic warbirds the most anyway, but modern jets are not bad at all, com'on!

On the "close and personal" thing, I think it has been explained it's a sort of myth, even though I'm sure the 40's are still more fun. All the other weapons add excitement and variety though...

My ? 0,02 (= US$ 0.023)...

i heard the A10 gun is undermodelled the Sukhoi climbs too fast and the cockpits in the McDonnell Douglas planes have an unsightly bar that blocks visibility.

They can get the sounds pretty good...

They can get alot of things darned good...

BUT

I just wish I could smell that Jet Fuel burning...it really goes with turning one up.

I wasn't going to, but I think i must now. I get every sim that is current and the best. For that reason I really have only a couple of sims. While there is nothing like blasting away at an enemy at close range, there is also nothing like blasting straight up on two huge jet engines. The speed and power is amazing. When you go from props to modern jets even flying the sim makes you feel like your in a rocketship, kind of like the first jet pilots explained the difference.

While dogfighting is cool it is also cool to play a little electronic battle at longer range, with each guy trying to outwit the other without even seeing each other. The cool thing is that the same maneuvers you use in FB will still work in LOMAC. It just happens alot faster and at much greater distances.

Modern fighters are more complex, thus less airplanes. They have to model radar, doppler notch, ground clutter with terrain masking, avionics, HUD symbolgy, TVM symbology, electronic environment, RWR symbology and corresponding tones, missile parameters, waypoint markers, ILS, barometric and radar altimeters...

WWII planes are, comparitively speaking, similar, with alot less to model.

As for the choice of which planes are flyable, if Lo-Mac sells well, UBIsoft will consider aircraft addons.

Eagle dynamics is currently considering a flyable F-18 Add-on, already.

Damn you Carl! Words cannot express how jealous I am of you guys that are getting hands on experience with the latest builds /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

And yes, I am looking forward to flying this beaut.

Ever since I was about 8 I've wanted to be a Hog driver.. This is about as close as I'll come (damn my contact lenses /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ).

I'm going to fly it for sure /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

And for those afraid of all the missile tossing..

Well, with luck they'll learn something from Fighters Anthology (which has an AWESOME community fo ra long time) which was the server option to set the planes to "Guns Only".

And given that Lo-Mac should have good FM's (... it better /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ) I think it will be a blast.

Anyone know if they will allow 2 players in the same plane (in planes with 2 seats) Because that would make Missile combat much more interesting, if you actually had a WSO.

I just flew an early version of the demo. You will get to fly the A-10 against a ZSU-23-4, a couple T-80s, a BMP, and a moving BRDM. You have a couple AGM-65s, some CBUs, and your GAU-8 to work the targets. You have just enough fuel to take out the targets and land at a nearby airfield.

You also get to fly the MiG-29 A2A against a MiG-23.

Cheers,
Carl
