Hello all! Goose_Green has returned to the fold after a period of time!

I have been somewhat distracted of late hence my sudden and unexplained disappearance, reasons to why I would rather not divulge here. It's okay, I was not detained at Her Majesties pleasure for a stretch, abducted by aliens or even forced back into the service of Her Majesties armed forces to fight in Afghanistan either http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I will take this opportunity to thank those who have wondered about my absence http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif I will note that I have no idea where Liddabit is by the way, I had not realised she was MIA too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Anyway enough of this nonsense. I have this afternoon returned home from a weekend away visiting the nations capital, London! The sole reason of the visit was to see Iron Maiden live at Twickenham last night!! And of course visit some of the many sights London has to offer.

Here are some of the highlights of my visit!

Absolutely excellent pics Goose. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

You can talk freely now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

No need to come up with fancy stories about visiting London or Iron Maiden concerts. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Did the aliens told you to sell us ridiculous and hard to believe cover story ? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Welcome back.

That concert looks good. I've seen Iron Maiden twice, back in the 80'.

Great to see you back Goose - Welcome Back!

Your photo's are superb! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

I hope you enjoyed HMS Belfast, it looks as though you did - was it busy when you went? - Nothing worse than trying to get the shot you want with dozens of people milling around http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

Hey Goose! I don't believe it - I was there too! What a great gig! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

Damn, if we'd known, we could have hooked up before the main act for a very expensive beer - and talked U-boats! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

VikingGrandma and I were in seats very high up in the west stand, but we were near the front which made up for it a little:

(taken with mobile phone)

Looks like you had a great view! Despite the big video screens at the side of the stage, we couldn't see the amazing stage sets in all their glory, so thanks for posting these superb pics.

Is your last shot taken during 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' by any chance? That and 'Powerslave' were two of my favourite songs they played on Saturday. Awesome stuff - Maiden's talent has not dulled with age. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Great pictures of London too. I wish I'd had time to have a day in the city, but we had to drive straight to the concert in time for the last support act and then drive straight back home to Manchester after Maiden finished... A long day but well worth it. An unforgettable gig!

If, like me, you prefer the 80s Iron Maiden to the later stuff (in fact I don't like any of their music after 'Seventh Son'), then you'd have loved this gig... it was ALL exclusively 80s tracks (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=89770)*! I never got to see Maiden when I was a teenager, so I am so glad they decided to do a 'retro' tour now http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

* except for 'Fear of the Dark' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif I was disappointed they played that when they could have played other classic Maiden tracks such as 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Running Free' or - my favourite - 'Where Eagles Dare'.

What happened to their Killers album?
It seems Bruce doesn't like Di'Anno http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif (It was Di Anno, or something like it - it's sooo long ago).

Now I'm nostalgicaly depressed....off to bed then. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Yep, nothing from 'Killers' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

You're right with the name - Paul Di'Anno. Not as distinctive as Bruce but still a great metal vocalist whose voice suited the early songs. Did you see Maiden with Di'Anno?

There's an awesome DVD available with live footage of the Di'Anno and early Bruce Dickinson years:

The History of Iron Maiden, Pt. 1: The Early Days (http://www.amazon.co.uk/History-Iron-Maiden-Pt-REGION/dp/B0006FO9J2/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1215480259&sr=1-30) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

First concert with Di'Anno, the second with Bruce.
At the time we all missed Di'Anno but today I have to totaly agree with you.

I followed the link and saw the "Killers" cover after many years.
I remember hours I've spent looking at the cloudy sky and background happening behind the curtains.
I still have a vinil somewhere. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It's a very small world isn't it? I bumped into a couple of old work mates while I was there too, funnily enough they were situated quite near to you too going by the photograph you posted http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

The pictures are of "Powerslave", "The Trooper", "Number of the Beast" (with the flames) and "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner". I loved Bruce's introduction for that last song - we all knew what was coming http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I must admit that the first hour flew past, and I actually remember very little of the gig, but what a gig it was too, before they came on stage I was talking to my mate and guessing the first two songs played, and I was right too - not too difficult really http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. I was amazed it was the only UK date http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I have to say that Live After Death & Seventh Son are my all time favourite albums to date. I must say I really enjoyed "Fear of the Dark" mainly because we could all get in on the act!

The one thing I was very dissapointed with was the tour merchandise, I was unable to get any t-shirts as the service was appalling and the stocks were limited http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I finally remembered where this thread was, thanks RJ for answering my question. I wish there were more of those close to where I live. Although, I am thinking of taking my Dad to see the Queen Mary, which is 1 hour away. There is also a Russian sub docked next to her.
