What is the fastest plane in the game besides rocket planes and rare planes? Im talking planes that i would normally see in a lot of servers?
Fastest in speed, and fastest acceleration up to a high speed? im sure there are a few to argue about so just give me what you think.

Counting only common props - Mustang III. 642km/h on the deck.

+1

if you want to include jets that actually flew in combat, add the he 162.

Lerche??? Not a "rare" plane?

The Mustang III is the fastest common prop plane in game, though it is only around on late war servers.

In second place, depending on the altitude you fly at, the La-7, the Fw 190D-9, Tempest and the other P-51's - to name a contender from every side that has something like a fast plane available.

You mean "real" ??? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif
It's STOL aircraft, it appears in category Aircraft, and if you shot down one, the message "Enemy aircraft destroyed" appears and you got 200 points.
So, i think it's (at least in game) an aircraft http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Btw, have you ever tried this bird? I can't understand, how can German build such an excellent aircraft. This is Lerche, not the Me-262 deserves the name Wunderwaffe

No, I mean rare as in rare as in the original question where rare was excluded from the possible answers. The Lerche, an impossible concept that never flew and would not have flown, is a rare aircraft in the originals questions sense. So it is not a valid answer for the question. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If it had been capable of flying it would indeed have deserved the label Wunderwaffe, as it would have been a true Wunder had it flown.

At what altitude?

On the deck the Mustang III is around 31 mph faster then the P-47D, but at 29,500' the 47 is faster by about 17 mph.

Not in this game, is it? The 47 up high is about as fast as a Mustang III.

It depends on what you mean by "up high."

Obviously, since the Stang is faster on the deck and slower at 29,500', there is going to be an altitude where neither is faster than the other.

A flawless conclusion but since it is based on wrong input, it is wrong. If the MustangIII was indeed slower at 29.500 than the P-47, you'd be right. But it isn't, so you aren't.

High alt in the context of WW2 aviation is usually above 20000'.

Its a common misconception that the Mustang 3 is fastest prop plane .It IS below 8km above that the Ta152H wins... (Ta152 max 746kmh at 8.75km Vs Mustang 3 max 726kmh at 6.5km)For reference the sea level figures are 595kmh vs 637kmh (in the P51s favour)
IL2 Compare is a must for any budding number crunchers

I did test it before my original post, but after your claim, I decided I'd test it again just to make sure. Actually, to be really sure, I tested the Mustang with only 50% fuel as opposed to the 75% I carried in the Jug.

The 47 is in fact faster than the Stang III at 29,500. Not only that, but the Mustang was very quickly overheating with the radiator set to auto, while the 47, with cowl flaps closed, can run it's WEP completely out at that altitude and never get hot.

That is not an adequate definition of high alt when talking performance. There can be big differences in performance between 20 and 30+ thousand feet, and some aircraft are effected more than others.

by il2compare,

above 7500m the 51c, is faster than the mustangIII, and the fastest mustang at alt.

The only p47 quicker than the 51c, is the d27 late, and only between 5750m and 7250m. The mustang mkIII is quicker at all alt.

both Ta152's are quicker abover 8250m

So I should believe IL2 Compare, which Oleg has said is not always accurate, and just dismiss the two tests I performed myself?

Hey idonno, any numbers / scrshots about your testings available? What speed did you manage to squeeze out of them at what alt and at what settings?

Testing a lot of planes at ground level I found out that I can get them to speeds between 5 to 10 kph more than what's stated in IL2C. How about this at high alt?

I haven't dealt in actual speeds because the tests were not performed on the Crimea map, so the exact numbers may not be what they should. I don't see this as a problem because, although you may get different top speeds for a particular aircraft from one map to the next, the faster plane will always be the faster plane as long as the two are compared on the same map.

IL2C is good on speeds and bad on slow, esp slow turns.

The light weight P51H was faster than the Mustang III and was operational with squadrons by the end of the war but I doubt it saw combat.

Of course there is no P51H in the game.

I tested it at 10km and the Mustang was in fact a tad faster. But I had the radiator closed.

And if I say "at high alt" I'm covering every altitude 20000' up. If I wanted or needed to be more specific, I'd be.

In Real Life the Mustang had a higher ceiling and higher speed than the P-47 at all atitudes. That is why (along with its extended range) the Mustang began to replace the P-47 and relegate it to its other strong point of ground attack as the war progressed (discovered somewhat inadvertently as P-47 pilots began to attack ground targets with leftover ammunition on their way back).

Speed won't win you the fight however so I don't see the point of your question unless you want to race and there again speed is not the winner.

Finding the fastest plane is all about power to weight ratio (or in the case of jets thrust to weight ratio). For example, the single engine F16 can accelerate to Mach 2 much faster than a twin-engined variant.

The search and calculations are now up to you.
