View Full Version : IMPORTANT: Il2skins.com In Danger!

CanonUK

Hi everyone,

I've been in contact with Sharx, and I'm sorry to say that the site is in danger of being cut off. Sharx is currently between jobs, and doesn't have the funds to pay for the site this month. The il2skins account is short $120 canadian. If the money isn't paid, the server might be cut off, and everything on it lost. That would suck. Lots.

$120 isn't much though for the community to pay collectively, so if you've ever thought about donating to the running costs of a site that has kept the game alive, now's the time to do it. And if you have donated in the past, a big thanks, but another donation would be appreciated.

Donating is simple, just click the PayPal link on the main page of the site. It doesn't have to be a huge donation, every little helps. And if there's more than $120 donated, it will be used to pay for next months running costs. So, once again, dig deep and help il2skins.com

Thanks,

BSR_Dude

If you can post a mail addy, maybe a PO Box or equivalent I'll send a money order. I refuse to waive all my credit card protection rights to join Paypal.

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif sad, maybe ads could be the solution?

Just a few dollars from everyone that uses the site would be enough to pay the costs for the next year, without resorting to ads..

Dear All,

I am that active in posting on this forum but I do visit very often. I agree with CanonUK and we should make some contribution and support Il2skins.com.
Where I come from there's a saying:"It's easy to have friends in a good time, but real friends will stay with you in a rough times."
Il2skins sails through difficult time now and I'm willing to contribute and support it.
@Canon:
Could you please post some information how could we contribute?

Thanks in advance

Preparing a presentation for tomorrow at the moment, but I'll try and make a contribution later tonight. IL2skins is definitely worth a few . Outstanding community resource.

I've always had a problem with people milking the IL-2 community for funds.

Where does it end?

He is right ^ everything in life should be free. where do you work by the way? McD's? computer store. if so i will be by tommorow to pick up my combo #1 or a new computer.
Thanks in advance.

il2skins.com has asked for nothing you can use it for free and get amazing addons. They dont require $ to use the site and they arnt doing it to turn a profit. Not everyone is going to donate money, if they did they could run the server for a year, all they are asking for is $120 Cdn. im sure that they have almost, if not, already reached that goal from the community.

I think that's the wrong attitude, R Mutt. The community benefits enormously from il2skins, and it's free. Thousands of skins are available to anyone, and for nothing. So are you saying that Sharx should pay for it himself instead of 'milking the community'?

I know a lot of people who do a lot for the community and ask for nothing in return. Both time and money wise.

If my measley little skins page went beyond it's allocated bandwidth for the month (which it has) I'd do something to prevent it from happening again rather than feeding the monster by investing more money into it, or relying on outside funds to keep it afloat.

This isn't just in reference to IL2Skins, I said the exact same thing in regards to Gibbage milking the community for the flyable PBY funds and took a lot of flak for that as well.

It's great to see that, when it comes down to it, members of this unparalleled community will stand up and be counted to help Sharx out with il2skins.com - surely the best community-based resource for ANY game on the net. Without the thousands he has already spent hosting the incredible talent of the communty's members, Ubi and Oleg could kiss goodbye to the popularity this game has achieved.

Well done all, keep it up!

Mines on the way. All I can afford now. I dont work and waiting on disability approval. If I had more I would definatly send more. ", maybe ads could be the solution?"

No, I don't believe they should resort to ads, that would just reck it, IMO. $120 isn't a lot, so don't be selfish and do something good for someone else, without getting anything in reward, besides a good community. Its called generousity.

Why doesn't sharx make a subscriber list? We have that at wolfgaming, a $5 month subsciption that automatically comes out of paypal without out the need to go there an donate every month.

I have donated in the past and will this time too - I really think Olg needs to pick up the tab on this one - He owes this community - it's the least he could do.

CanonUK
01-06-2005, 12:33 PM
I don't think Oleg owes us anything, he's already provided the best WW2 flight sim ever, and constant support and patches. This is something that the community should support, and judging by all the donations, it's happy to. Thanks all.

As for a postal address, I don't think Sharx has anything set up for that. I'll get back to you if I find anything out.

It is obvious from these posts that alternative payment methods are required. I don't like Paypal either and would gladly donate if there was an alternative such as Visa or MC. I used to manage one of the Visa Centres in Canada and I know it's easy to set up a Visa account for donations. By my reckoning donations would increase by more than 30% if a credit card option was available.

Why does everyone have a hang-up with PayPal? I've been using them for over 3 years now without any problem what-so-ever. Both to receive and disperse funds.

I am aware of some of the issues that have been posted on the web and all the "I hate paypal" websites and the numerous Pissing and moaning on any internet forum you can think of. But I can only go by the experiences I have had and those have been trouble free.

just curious.....

I am sure others have good reasons why they don't like Pay Pal. I tried to make a donation but didn't understand what to enter in the PAY TO Box. There is something called Steve@Infonet. Is that IL2 Skins? It isn't clear to me and I hesitate to enter anything. Explain it to me and I'll try Pay Pal.

Maybe we need a tutorial on how to use Pay Pal http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
