Sorry for caps /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Anyways... looks like way of joining Dedicated servers via Hyperlobby was finnally found. I can`t say that it`s the best way of doing it...but it works.

This thread for clients ONLY, not hosts... For HOSTS will be a separate one.

Here we go This is how to join by IP address, but keep in mind that you will need all this steps if you are joining from Hyperlobby!!!!

1)Donwload and install GameService IF YOU DIDN`T INSTALL IT with FB right off the disk.

Download here: http://gamingzone.ubisoft.com/packages/GameService.exe intall it and forget about it... simply yes, yes, yes... done.

2)Download FBLauncher from Wildhoney`s website:
http://wildhoney.nightmail.ru/il2fb/FBLauncher.zip

3)Unzip files into newly created directory say...C:\FBLauncher. Once it`s done... you are all set to join multiplayer VIA IP.

In FBLauncher all you have to do is specify link to il2fb.exe and enter IP address of the HOST (Assuming that dedicated server hosts will let you know their IP address by posting it on the game title at HL, or in forums or whatever.

***************** Hyper Lobby ***************************

Right now only one dedicated server is running on HL...
IDC_Server by Hunter82... you know..What a guy /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Now, the tricky Hyperlobby part /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif :
If you join VIA FBLauncher stand along...it`s like joining game VIA IP, meaning you will not be seeing from HL as a player on that server. There is a big problem with that. People will think that server is empty...which might be simply not the case.

THERE IS THE WAY TO JOIN Game directly from Hyperlobby and you will be seen as a player on that server from the lobby. After days of brainstorming Hunter and myself firgure out the way to start it and i e-mailed my thoughts to Wildhoney. Wild responded rather quicky and we got what we were asking for. Wild, thank you so much mate, you are da best!

Ok, this is how it goes.
In order to join from Hyperloby, simply by clicking on "Join" perform following:

1) Download this version of FBLauncher(Note: MUST HAVE wildhoneys version installed prior to it): http://mudmovers.com/temp/fblauncher_no_close.zip

2) Unzip it into your FBLauncher folder and let it overwrite existing FBLauncher when you unzip.

3) RENAME FBLauncher to il2fb

4) Now you have to redirect Hyperlobby to work with this fake il2fb /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif In order to do so, in your IL2 FB folder rename il2fb.exe to something else... like il2fb1.exe or whatever.

5) Start Hyperlobby and it will promt you for game path, since it can`t find executable anymore. Type the new path in like:
C:\FBLauncher\il2fb.exe or whatever your path is and click SAVE.

6) Go back to IL2 FB folder and rename il2fb.. executable to original il2fb.exe

You are all set! Hyperlobby launches, i hope HOSTS of dedicated servers will be kind enough to post their IP`s in the server title like Hunter did. Join the normal way, as you usually join... first thing you`ll see ...a FBLauncher will pop up. You will enter path to IL2FB.EXE in IL2 FB folder and put in server IP which you should either remember before you joined or write down.
Click launch on FBLauncher and you are in! And listed on that server. There, server does not appear empty anymore, meaning even more people will join /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

This is looking rather complex...But it is NOT, No more then 5 minutes to complete all install. Believe me guys and gals, Dedicated server is smooth as a silk... And i hope that in the nearest future either Jiri...or Wildhoney...or both of them with combined effort will make more user friendly version of HL or whatever it will be.

Thanks for your time. If you have any questions...please ask away! I`ll try to answer hehe...

Good luck all! Will see ya on IDC server!

V!

A bit crude but its a great way to take advantage of the less lag of dedicated servers.

I appreciate your effots here Ivan, truely. But sheesh...there has to be a better way.

Until you can join directly form HL, without all the computer gymnastics, the dedicated server is just too much trouble to mess with.

Let me explain myself better. You don`t have to join Hyper in the such a long way around. Just install GameService and FBLauncher... Go to HL, Look up Hunters IP and start FB with the launcher, very simple. As i said before, main problem is... Server appears empty on HL while there could be 20 ppl on it. That`s why i posted the second part, Which is not neccessary at ALL.

Bottom Line... IF YOU SEE A DEDICATED SERVER... take a pick inside, it could be FULL of people hehe

What we're hoping is after all the dynamics are complete Jiri will be able to incorporate a way to

A) IF dedicated server it launches FB Launcher with correct IP information preloaded and the user only has to hit launch.

B) If standard hosting joins as current

C) Oleg and UBI put out patch and save us all many hours of work for router hosting issues as this seems to be the same situation as was created at time of 1.1B where host could no longer host games if behind a router on the game service.

C would be the best solution but if it doesn't happen we need the ability to use the dedicated server software because it is definitly a very stable platform. I have FBD running scripted maps with skin download enabled and 0 issues so far,

Bandwidth usage is less than 2% on my server and CPU usage is ranging from 2-5%. Memory used is roughly 180 MB.....

Can you run the dedicated server from behind a router?

And if so, can you join from another computer on your network, while also letting people join from the 'net?

If a host post it's a dedicated server and you join through hyper it's fairly easy. I named my FBexe to il2fb1 and named launcher to il2fb. The launcher points to fb1 and hyper points to il2fb. If you want to join a non-dedicated server go into main il2 folder rename fb1 to fb and join......takes all of 5 secs.

Honestly with all the screaming and BS people had when the DS was released we figured a 10 sec operation as a work around would suffice.....seeing as we've spent probably 40 hours this week alone working on just this.

ok last one /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

all IMO of course

Min of 512 ram. uses approx 180-200 so 256 not enough for OS and DS.

DSL/ISDN or greater for connection. My line is 9mb down and 1 mb up and the DS only uses .4% with 8 players on Gulf of Finland map with 35 ships and heavy AA.

I'm going to say min processer as 1 ghz but haven't tested yet

*** UPDATE ***

Big thanks to troll2k for a helpfull tip. This will make HL start much easier.

Ok, this is how it goes.
In order to join from Hyperloby, simply by clicking on "Join" perform following:

1) Download this version of FBLauncher: http://mudmovers.com/temp/fblauncher_no_close.zip

2) Create a new Folder in IL2-FB directory and simply call it FBL

3) Unzip contents of fblauncher_no_close.zip in that folder.

4) If you already have original FBLauncher installed somewhere else... there are 2 .DLL files that you have to copy into FBL from there. If you didn`t install FBLauncher yet... grab it from wildhoneys site (See original post) extract only those two DLL`s into FBL folder.

5) RENAME FBLauncher to il2fb

************************************************** ****

Installation is complete! Don`t have to touch anything anymore /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Now, open up Hyperlobby...and see if there are any dedicated servers around.

If there is one...and you feel like joining...

1) Disconnet from HL but don`t close it. Press down Shift CTRL and click connect.

2) You will be prompt by game path selection window... with default link ...IL-2 ForgottenBattles\il2fb.exe and all you have to do is add FBL in the front of il2fb.exe and make it look like this: C:\...IL-2 ForgottenBattles\FBL\il2fb.exe

And you are all set...no more renaming and jumping back and forth... Finished playing on dedicated server and see a regular server? Simply disconnect for a sec, hold down Shift CTRL and click connect again.... game path window will pop up.. get read of FBL part and join regular game. Much simpler now /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Enjoy!

V!

512 mb RAM seems to be its' happy-spot.
I ran a 8-player on a pII 450 and it was smooth as silk... (runing Win2kAS, by the way)
A good connection seems to be the most important part.

Using the modifications, people with routers should have no problem hosting on HL, as long as the ports are forwarded or the host is in the "DMZ"... I may be incorrect on this, so don't complain if it doesn't work.

I had a feeling that someone would have to write a dummy router for this, since all the important code was in the SFS files.

Kudos to 1C for the port.. it runs exceptionally well on old hardware, i just wish they would have ported it to linux so I could run a server on my leased box.. having 10mb of leased line available would make for an awesome server!

Good job figuring this workaround out Ivan and Hunter. Is it me, or are there not many dedicated servers listed at UBI or HL? Maybe the host just isn't indicating that the server is dedicated?

BTW, haven't had time to play with setting all this up, maybe later today.

Original instructions (what I did)

#1: Download and install FB Launcher from the above links.

#2: Download the "fblauncher_no_close" file and overwrite the original FB Launcher.exe file.

#3: Rename your il2fb.exe file to something else; like "il2fb1.exe".

#4: Go to the folder you have FB Launcher installed to, and change "FBLauncher.exe" to "il2fb.exe".

#5: Start up hyperlobby, and connect. Point HL to where you installed FB Launcher and the fake "il2fb.exe".

#6: Go back and rename "il2fb1.exe" to "il2fb.exe".

#7: A dedicated server should have its IP in the info box when you click on it. Write the IP down, then click join game.

#8: You should have FB Launcher come up. Enter the server IP and click Launch.

#9: Enjoy!

Revised instructions (what Ivan told me to do)

#1: Get FB Launcher from the above links.

#2: Download the "fblauncher_no_close" file.

#3: Create a directory in your IL2FB folder and call it "launcher".

#4: Install the files from "fblauncher_no_close" and put them in the folder you created within the IL2FB directory.

#5: Copy "borlndmm.dll" and "cc3250mt.dll" from FB Launcher and put them into the "launcher" folder.

#6: Rename "FBLauncher.exe" to "il2fb.exe".

Installation complete - how to use:

#7: Look for any dedicated servers around that you'd like to join. If they have a IP in their info, write it down.

#8: Disconnect from HL, but don't close it.

#9: Hold down SHIFT + CRTL and click connect in HL.

#10: You will be prompt by a game path selection window. All you have to do is put "launcher\" in front of "il2fb.exe".

#11: When you join the dedicated server, it should launch FB Launcher. Enter the IP, and click "Launch".

#12: When done with the dedicated server, and wish to play on a non dedicated server, you must disconnect from HL again.

#13: Once disconnected, hold down SHIFT+CRTL and hit connect. You should be prompted for a path to the game. Remove "launcher\" from the path and click save.

#14: You may now play on a undedicated server.

--------

Finally, if none of this will work for you, and you don't want to jump through the hoops, you *can* take the IP from the server and join directly from the game interface. However this means that HL will not update the player count.

Have fun! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I am running a dedicated server, It is possible to join it via IP but it is not showing in HL. What do we need to do to get it appearing in there?
