I also turn off lensflare (it just looks better).

Whatever it is in the ini file, just make it the opposite, if it's a 1 make it a O if it's a O make it a 1.

I can't check because I'm not on my gaming rig /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Something you may or may not already know about is IL2 Stab or IL2 Manager. They both give you an easy to use format for changing most of the stuff you mentioned in your post. I at first thought that the Manager was the better deal, but now that I've used both extensively, I would suggest IL2 Stab. You can find links to both at

http://www.mudmovers.com

Hope this helps!

P.S. If you decide to check both out, whatever you do, make sure you totally uninstall the first one before you use the second one. Having both on at the same time can cause some problems, like having Russian ranks for the German campaign, and the historic markings disappearing.

Make a backup of your original config.ini before you start playing with it.

I saw somewhere that someone had their gore setting at 3 instead of 1, so it may not be a true/false (1 or 0) setting.

I think lensflare is the "sunburst" effect, or is it the fish-eye effect?

Another good one to turn off (set equal to 0) is subtitles. If you replace the sound files with another language (see the readme) you don't need them at all.

I still don't know what the icons setting does.

Cheers,
Mike

This one can be quite useful for gunnery training and exploring the damage model.

- HighGore=0

As I posted, I think it can be set higher than 1, but I haven't investigated the effects.

- Intro=0

Can be set from il2setup.exe.

- NoSubTitles=1

As I mentioned. I learned to turn this off early in my IL-2 career.

- NoChatter=1

Bad idea. You might be surprised how much useful info you can garner from the AI comms. If it bothers you, you can redduce it, but learning to filter it with your ears can be productive.

- NoLensFlare=1

Did you look to see whether this eliminates the sunbursts?

- eventlogkeep=0

Never have used the event log, don't really even know where it is or what it tells you.

Regards,
Mike

DefaultLen=800.0

distance in meters from your plane for camera in external padlock modes.

MaxLen= gives the maximum zoom out distance in meters you can get from you mouse in external zoom out, set it to 100,000 meters if you want.

Speed= directly controls how fast the head swing will go front and swing back. Set it to 500 using a TrackIR and it just blinks, you'll never even have to see the gunsight view again, it's that quick.

timeFirstStep=3.5

flyby time, 3.5 seconds till it hits the camera pivot point.

deltaZ=0.01

Set as 0.01 it's flying right through the camera when wings level, default has you off to the side several degrees.

Lens flare is the specular highlights you get when the "camera" is facing a bright light source (the sun). It can be seen in Rogodin's sig pic and in this pic:

Good thread.

Is there a way to shorten the duration of the on-screen chatter dialog? If the skies are busy and there's lots of chatter, the written dialog blocks a fair portion of the screen. Can it be made to last just two or three seconds?

Is changing the Speed setting from 6 to say 12 or 20 cheating ? all it does is allow your mans head to pivot faster in the views.....

Cheating or not cheating that is the question ?

I`m capable of speeds around 20 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif , so TrackIR users should be potentially up there plus have the possibility to pan around accurately and at any angle.

I don´t think of it as cheating... just depends what you`re comfortable with.

How can it be cheating if it's built into the sim and available to everybody? It's simply an undocumented feature.

Beirut, earlier I wrote "Another good one to turn off (set equal to 0) is subtitles. If you replace the sound files with another language (see the readme) you don't need them at all." It's easy to do. The text simply won't appear, and if you replace for example the Russian/German voices with English you will be able to understand without having to read. You can also turn down the radio volume. It might be less immersive to hear English instead of Russian, but not less than having subtitles on the screen.

Just saying,
Mike
