Thank you in advance.

I'm sure one of you fine gentlemen has these.

Hopefully I will be good enough to join a squadron one of these days.

The Luftwaffe didn't use checklists at all - they are a US invention. The pilot's manual stated just how to start the aircraft, but there was neither a unified procedure nor a thorough checklist.

Really, that is fascinating. You would think it would be the other way around, if anything.

Here is another question.

What would you suggest for aileron, rudder, and elevator settings at takeoff for hte 109 and 190?

I just set all trims to neutral, flaps take off setting and lock the tail wheel.

Ease up throttle. Get the nose down as quickly as possible and lift off around 180kph.

GŁnther Rall remembers his re-schooling on a T-6 in the 1950s and his surprise at the insistance on checklists. He said these things were a great equalizer allowing people from the most different backgrounds and greatly varying educations to learn to fly a combat aircraft. On the other hand the Luftwaffe always considered its pilots to be an elite and even in the end - while the actual flight training had become abysmally short - the preselection of pilot candidates was still very thorough.
