Hi,

I've built a free demo campaign pack for my new Wings over Waves addon.

It contains four seperate short campaigns with six missions each.
So it has 4 x 6 = 24 missions total.
It contains a couple of skins too.
You can get it on this page:

http://www.pluswave.de/html/pwx_download.html

Hope it gives you a good impression of Wings over Waves's atmosphere and level of detail.

Some feedback would be very kind :-)

Hi PlusWave:

I just went to your link and there is not a demo for Wings over Waves. The only demo listed is for Rebirth of Honour.

Hey Pluswave,
Your post intrigued me and I checked out your site. Very nice. I do have one question though, in your Rebirth of Honor, are all the briefings in German? Based on the screen shots they are. Is there an English translation in game as you have on the web site? That would be the only thing preventing me from buying it.

Thanks,

Vapors

I've only played the first three missions for the USMC in WOW. Great scenarios, but there are a few nitpicks (like using Corsair Mk Is instead of F4U-1 when the planes are basically identical except in name).

I think I've found my birthday present to myself! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Wow, I'm on the I think fifth IJN campaign, and my first thoughts are WOW. The missions have amazing atmoshphere, which is great seeing thats what is says you're looking for on the website. The mission I just played, about 4 flights of SBD's with F6F escorts were attacking our base. Take off, gain height, then turn around and go for the dive-bombers, which by this time are dropping their payloads. Just having a look at the airbase, there are several Zeros, D3A1's and Betty's parked in the revetments, with trucks and assorted equipment parked by some of them. Control towers are superbly placed, with gun emplacements surrounding them. Upon take off, one can notice on top of Peleilu's mountain, a heavy AA gun battery, with Flak and several heavy machine guns. It is a brilliant place to put it, as when scrolling through the enemy, the forward SBD's were taking flak about just over a kilometre away from the island.

Combat is huge fun, even though I must have replayed that mission half a dozen times, kept getting killed http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif Now I really no why animals use the 'safety in numbers' trick. My windscreen was filled with seemingly hundreds of targets, each with a red icon blurring the screen even more. Picking just one to go after is a challenge, but then oh on comes by especially close, half roll, pull back and go after him. SBD gunners however, are a wee bit slow. I was .20 and closer, and the gunners barely fired a shot. Suits me, as I pump 7.7 and cannon rounds into the cockpit and wings. Woo, got a flamer! Alright, next one. Radio your winmang to cover you, rest of squadron to attack bombers. There are several other flights of Zeros and Tony's, they can take care of the escorts. Pick another SBD, go for a deflection shot Woo hes smoking, add more flames to the fire and down he goes. 2 kills later, cannon ammo gone, go for an F6F. He dives, you dive with him, your A6M3 shaking like a maraca at 470mk/h. But you still keep up with him, closing to 5 metres, line up the crosshairs to the cockpit, and jam your thumb on the gun trigger. Hold for a few seconds, then stop as the Hellcat tries a manouver to get you off his six. To no avail, as you stream down on his tail once more, rifle rounds peircing his fuselage. What seems like 10,000 rounds later, your Zero stops shaking, and the endless stream of bullets stop. Bugger, he got away. Those American aircraft are too armoured for just rifle calibre rounds.

Head back to base, line up perfectly, speed is nice and low, flaps down gear down, touch down nice and soft, apply brakes and taxi her to the nearest revetment, right next to a Ki-61 that has already landed. Hey, got a message over the radio, seems I must have riddled that F6F with anough bullets, he seems to have crashed, credit going to me. Not a bad mission overall, 5 kills - 4 SBD's and an F6F, bringing my total kill tally up to 11. Guns dry, Zero unscratched, its a good time to be in the IJN....

I downloaded the demo and played a few missions.

Not that it really matters but I found the demo tedious.

1. Too many mission which invoved a lot of "time consuming" flying. Flying long distances to mindless waypoints in a combat sim is just annoying, IMO.

2. Oleg did a lousey job at terrain and ground objects on Peleliu, etc, etc., but in your demo you have it built up like Newport News. Both are wrong, IMO. I dont know what is wrong with historical accuracy.

3. You actually had night missions. That's when I stopped. Night missions off a Carrier? Where did that come from?

Its nice to see someone try to create something in this area but very few have been successful.

I liked the "Aces Collection". Historical scripted missions that get to the point.

I agree with you except the Brits did fly night carrier missions. Remember Taranto? Still never heard of any in the Pacific.

I have been flying this m8s demos every time he releases one. I love the "what if" scenarios he has built into the offline campaigns. Sure does make for some interesting thoughts\missions. I will be purchasing all three of his addons, just as I have the five other ones I already own. IL2 FB\AEP\PF is about at its end and I am just rounding the sim out with great mission packs. The only thing all three of them are lacking, imho, is not including any online coops with any of your addons. But the fact that you try to have all the ac on both sides starting at the same time to avoid the spawn stutters makes it easy to convert a mission for online coops is one is so inclined. I appreciate the hard work PlusWave. The airfields are so full of life it seems.

Hi Professor,

there are no real night missions from carriers.
There are some which start short before sunrise.
But you'll land on the CV at light.

Enjoyed the Hellcat missions - good action flow. My only only criticism is the use of the word "sep<span class="ev_code_red">e</span>rate" on your web page. For English speaking people, it's a real stand-out-like-a-sore-thumb typo that weakens your image for quality work. From Webster's online dictionary:

"The word you've entered isn't in the dictionary. Click on a spelling suggestion below or try again using the search box to the right.

Suggestions for seperate:
1. <span class="ev_code_blue">separate</span>...."

I'm playing the demo campaigns at the moment, so far I'm on IJN, and enjoying it a lot. The atmosphere is great.

2 small things to consider, perhaps.

(1) Oleg's problem probably...Damage model on PBY Catalina seems odd to say the least. I shot off all the tail surfaces, not just the rudder and elevators but the whole of the fin and tail and set one engine on fire. The Catalina just sailed on for ages as if nothing had happened. No kill credited there!

(2)After the missions in which you unluckily get downed, your own death is counted as one of your kills.

Other than that, great. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Definitely a PF problem. I don't have WoW. In one mission of a user made campaign, I rammed the main float of the Rufe into the tail assembly of the Catalina. No elevators, rudder, stabilizers, left at all. That Catalina still landed on the water successfully.

No kill was awarded until I returned and strafed it until it sank.

Typically,

Open the Pacific Fighters (or IL2:AEP/PF) folder.
Open the missions folder.
Open the campaigns folder.

After you figure out what country the campaign is for, open that folder. For example:

Open the UN folder for the United States Navy.

Place in that folder the named folder of the campaign. For example if the campaign is Straight Down, place that folder into the UN folder.

This is assuming that the campaign folder is just campaign missions. Many campaigns also include skins that must be individually installed.

These missions all sound great. It sounds like there's a LOT going on in each mission. The only thing that's stopping me from trying it out is the fact that a lot of the stock missions I play get bogged down with low frame rates when there's lots of planes, objects, etc. Missions like the Pearl Harbor missions that come with the game can get real slow on my computer.

I,m playing the japanese campaigne on wow with an amd64 3200 and 9800pro and am having no problem with frame rate.Ive bought most of the addons for il2 but i think wov isthe best by far. The detail of the bases is astoundingand ive never seen such action filled fights by somany over the carriers over the carriers. If this post turns out wrong its my first one and theres no way of previewing it.
