I notice my new Falcon came with 9.0a. They must have had a reason to not use 9.0b. I'd stay away from it.

I have an old tweaked P3 1ghz, oced ti-200 w/ harddrive running fast and smooth and the DX9b patch really caused me some problems, I now have a stutter reminiscent of CFS3 for some reason, how do I remove dx9b and go back to 9a, are there going to be new Nvidia drivers that go along w/ 9b?

Note, same vid settings from 9a ran nice and smooth.

I installed 9b.. didn`t gain anything...didn`t lose anything. Basicaly, nothing new there /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

In the tech forum Steve V and I believe Hunter both recommended 9.0b for my system. I have experianced no loss of prefomance in my system or in game.

As a matter of fact, using some but not all of Black Vipers gamer settings and adding 9.ob I have gone from around an average of 25 to 30 fps to almost a constant 46&47.

Needless to say my gunnery skills have climbed from horrible to crappy lol

Apparently ATI users are the ones who should be careful with this, but that's all I can dig up on it.

As for me, well I just grabbed it. Surely Microsoft wouldn't kick me with a pointed shoe right in the balls, right? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

It didn't do much to my system, still running the same. For all of you that are having problems, just use system restore.

Digging through FS2004 forums, I'm finding the majority recommending it and many claiming system performance increases... Just FYI, and that's why I decided 'feck it, here we go' /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Why on earth are you so worried about issues compared to the last version??

the only thing DX9.0b does is fixing a security issue.
Don't you ever read what updates actually do?

If you use the internet, then install it. Other
versions of DirectX have a vulnerability meaning
that your PC can be coopted for a DDOS attack
just by visiting a web page with a maliciously
coded midi file embedded in it, apparently.

XyZspineZyX

No reason to install it.
My FB hasn't ever crashed once and that's priceless.
Fps is fine and if it weren't, I wouldn't rely on DirectX 9b to redress that.
I'm happy as it is/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Always use the latest version of DirectX, and download the latest drivers for your system from Microsoft.

I use the critically acclaimed SereneScreen aquarium sceensaver. One day I noticed that my monitor wasn't powering down after 20 minutes like I told it too. I emailed SereneScreen and told them of the problem. They asked me what version of directX I was using. I told them 8.1 they said "download the latest version of DirectX from Microsoft". I was a bit skeptical at first (why would I need DX9 if my video card isn't a DX9 card) but I did it and low and behold! Everything worked fine after that. (including games, of course)

Always download the latest version of DirectX from Microsoft (and their latest drivers for your system too)

Is DirectX 9.0B even recommended on my old GeForce2 mx400?

michapma

Skyhawk, the latest version of DirectX is always recommended no matter what. Whether it helps you is one thing, but it will be backwards compatible. Your card just can't use the features of the newer DX versions. On rare occassion someone reports that using an earlier version of DX helps them. In most cases you are completely safe to install the latest version. In this case I think it is a question of patching the security, as someone I think already mentioned. I doubt there is drastic improvement otherwise. I run in OpenGL, but I did some graphics testing recently and DirectX actually ran with about the same frame rates. For me the main differences are how the shadows look and how the textures appear.

I run Win98SE from the computer pleistiocene era and accidentally installed 9.0b the other day during routine running of Windows update. I went "Oh S&!t!!!", since I had not heard whether or not it is recommended yet. Well I've been playing ever since and noticed no degradation in performance. I have not noticed it being any better either.
But have not measured frames with Fraps. Like always everything comes down to frame rate in the final analysis.
And whether or not stutter/pauses are introduced. I did notice my graphic quality seems a hair brighter and sharper, but it could be all im my head. I'm going to rum Fraps and re-post if I have time today. And no, it can't be uninstalled, unless you have have a more modern OS than myself with restore point capability.

I'd have to say the same thing here. But I would say if ANYTHING ... slight improvement (but small).
