Hi! I have been flying flight sims for quite while but recently have gotten into PF and I am anxious to get involved http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif So far I have been reading through the posts here and found and downloaded the patches, 3.03 to 4.04. I notice though that there is a new patch 4.08 that has been released. I was ready to download it but notice you need patch 4.07 before? My question is where do I get the 4.07 patch and or do I need others before 4.07? I am just wanting to play PF and not join with the other sims, so not looking for anything fancy. In the past with sims I got so caught up with modding and altering them that I never got around to actual flying so I am making sure I don't do that again. I look forward to communicating with you guys from time to time and hope you can shed some light on this patch thing. Thanks!

The only practical way to get to 4.07 is to buy the IL-2 1946 DVD. That will give you EVERYTHING up to and including 4.07. Then you can download the 4.08 patch for free, install that and you'll have the complete game.

Wal-mart and some other places sell the DVD for $29 US. (Someone said they had seen it for $19.)

The 4.08 patch can be found here:

Welcome!

Yup, 1946 is the way to go. I bought it at Circuit City for $20 but it looks like the price jumped back up to $30.

However, someone else just posted that Wal-Mart has it for $20. It may depend on where you live so I'd check both locations.

You can also get it online at the above mentioned stores as well as www.gogamer.com (http://www.gogamer.com) and Best Buy.

4.04 is as far as you can go with the standalone PF.
Enjoy it....

Wow. All I can say is that you are truly missing out on a tremendous load of content, aircraft, maps\missions, and an online community second to none. Besides that, you would still have Pacific Fighters as it is part of the total game. And there's no way you can mod\tweak to the point of spending all your time doing that & not flying. All it is, is one install & one patch. Nothing more to do.

Oh well. Welcome here m8!

I'm with these guys, unless your badly strapped for cash,1946 will be the best $30 you ever spent. Considering that you spend $40 or more for a regular video game to get 10-25 hrs of game play it's a great value. Even though IL2 is prety much at it's end as far as developement, I'm sure it will be in use by the community for many years. Don't sell your self short dude.

If you have a DVD drive in your computer go get IL-2 1946. You won't regret it.

Yea, I am actually quite tight on money but mainly don't have a dvd drive on my system. Maby in the future if I want more to PF, I will go for it, but I am going to see what all I can get from the stand alone and go from there. Thanks again!

Installing a new drive is pretty basic. You can pick up a DVD drive for just under $24 shipped- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827101131

If you also want to be able record your own movies to DVD (DVD Burner) then this one is a good choice for just under $36 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151133

IMHO the DVD burner is the way to go because you can copy (burn) to not only DVD but CD as well. Burning to DVD is also good for backing up photos and other types of important files that take up a lot of room. Can't store very much on a CD.

As far as IL2:1946 I picked mine up the other day for just $20. I am just getting into this as well and believe me, you will eventually want to fly online. If you do end up getting 1946 then check out the free basic flight school over at Joint-Ops (http://www.joint-ops.com/). I'll be attending it in a couple of weeks and I have heard nothing but good things about the program.

I love Montana...in the Summer. Been through there many times. Good luck!
