Please read:

http://www.dreyermachine.com/il2/tournament/

I was thinking of maybe organizing a man 8 double elimination 1on1 tournament for fun on Sunday at around 2PM EST (7PM GTM, I think).

E-mail me at il2@dreyermachine.com with the name you will be flying under if you wish to participate. Tracks will be required so a good Internet connection is preferred (you will be provided with an FTP to upload tracks). Also post here if you're interested.

Wouldn't this be more suitable for a "great war" game? I'm sure there are a few people up for the challenge though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Duels were a little more common then, than they were in WW2, no?

And most people do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Not really into the whole 1 on 1 thing, but that's the way it turns out sometimes, so I guess this would be good training.

Indeed.
Dog Fight servers and 1v1 fights build individual skills while co-ops build team skills. Some people who fly all co-ops seem to lack 'the edge' when the ship hits the fan.

Any thought on the plane sets and starting position? There's guys out there that think just because thier K4 outclimbs a Jug, they're a better pilot. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I'm not great by any means, but having a mismatch like a P-47 and a Bf-109K-4 take off at the same time is skewing things in favor of the 109, just as starting the duel at 10,000m with a P-47 vs. a Yak.

Will there be interceptor vs. interceptor, and the like? Or more of a free-for-all? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Sounds like a good time, though. Good luck.

I got the rules up on my page. http://www.dreyermachine.com/il2/tournament/

Basically you will start a bit apart on separate airfields and then there will be a designated area that you want to hold, for instance the airspace above and around a neutral airfield. This is done to centralize the fight to one area and also means anyone simply running away will loose. Now both pilots will fly both aircraft in the plane set provided, so this basically decides who the better pilot is "overall". Plane sets listed below.

Rules may change a bit as I make revisions. Input is welcomed.

quote:
1.0 - Tournament Overview
Event Dates: October 17th 2004 (Sunday).
Game Played: IL2 Sturmovik FB/ACE 2.04
Number of Players: 8
Prize: Free Web Hosting or a Free Ventrilo server
Contact E-Mail: il2@dreyermachine.com

2.0 - Tournament Structure
2.1 The tournament will hold 8 players in a double elimination format.

2.2 To sign up e-mail il2@dreyermachine.com with any relevant information. Include the nickname you will be flying under under in the tournament.

2.3 Matches will play out as the bracket sets forth. A loss will move you to the losers bracket. 2 losses will remove you from the tournament.

2.4 The loser's bracket winner will play the winner's bracket winner to determine a winner. As the loser's bracket team must defeat the winner's bracket team twice.

2.5 Players must idle in IRC at irc.gamesurge.net in channel #dreyer. Tournament information will be relayed here. You can download mIRC from www.mirc.com (http://www.mirc.com). It is VERY easy to use, don't be discouraged. Please use the nickname you signed up with.
3.0 - Tournament Match Rules
3.1 Recording a track will be mandatory. Failure to produce a track may result in disqualification. Track must be started before take-off.

3.2 Matches will be played out as follows:
A match will consist of a best out of 3 scenario. Two separate and semi-balanced aircraft will be provided for the round. Players will fly the opposite aircraft each for two rounds (Player one in aircraft A vs Player two in aircraft B and vice versa). If no winner is determined after the first two rounds you may choose whichever aircraft desired (from the two provided in the round) for the 3rd and decisive round.

Plane Sets:
Winner Bracket: Round 1 -> LA-5F vs. BF-109 G6 Late
Winner Bracket: Round 2 -> MiG-3 (any model) vs. BF-109 F4
Winner Bracket: Round 3 -> P-40M vs. Zero (1943)

Looser Bracket: Round 1 -> Spitfire (any model) vs. BF-109 G6/AS
Looser Bracket: Round 2 -> Hurricane Mk.IIB vs. B-239
Looser Bracket: Round 3 -> P-47 (any model) vs. FW-190 Dora
Looser Bracket: Round 4 -> BF-109 G6 vs. P-39N

Finals: Round 1 -> BF-109 G10 vs Yak-9 (any 9' model)
Finals: Round 2 (IF REQUIRED) -> Spitfire (any model) vs. BF-109 G6/AS

Server Settings:
Full difficulty except:

1.) Speed Bar
2.) Mini-Path (Map Icon)
Each player will take off from separate airports faced each other.

Each round will last a maximum of 20 minutes. If the time expires with no winner the aggressor will win the round by default. The fight will take place over an empty airfield and the aggressor will be determined by who controls this airspace.

In the case of dispute an Admin will evaluate the track provided from the player and make a ruling.

Markings are required. Russian/American/German/Japanese aircraft must utilize the proper markings.

During the match no other restrictions are set in place. Players are encouraged to utilize their aircraft's strengths and their opponent's weaknesses to the fullest extent. No tactic is restricted. Players decide on their own fuel % before take off.

In the event of a mid-air crash, the round will be discounted. No matter the situation prior to the collision.

If a player disconnects from the game for ANY reason he/she will then automatically forfeit that round (note, round, not match). Second player will then wait for his opponent; if he does not return to the server within 10 minutes the match will be forfeited.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif He is is afraid of you Gozr. He wants to use a different planes strenght and weakness to win not fly to his ability in an equal playing field.

Flying diffent planes does nothing to prove who is the better pilot.

Get I'll be looking forward to seeing this.

steiner562: Lots of people have viewed the thread and 1 guy signed up. haha. only maybe one other showed any sign of interest sooo, yeah screwdriver it. I don't have the patience to wait a few weeks to get a measly 8 people to join up. Something this straight forward shouldnt take more than a few hours to get peopled signed up for. But I guess the community is just too small. Too many are either not into flying 1on1 (that's fine) or just plain down afraid.

TOAD: lol, yes it does if both sides fly both planes each once.

dreyer You seem a bit impatient here. I have had the 1v1 maps for months. It hard to get people to do them.

With your web page showing you have the will power to be patient (fly around looking for the perfect battle) give it some time, Don't just say stuff it in a couple of days.
