A substantial majority of us here are of legal age so I hope this thread is OK. I rarely drink but when I do I was drinking Sam Adams Boston Lager. Having been to Germany in the past (twice in the Army and Oktoberfest is FANTASTIC!!!) everything else seems to pale in comparison. Due to the high levels of British "influence" in my squadron I was asked to try Theakstons "Old Peculier". I have a very good friend who owns a distributor and inquired about this brand to see if he could acquire some. He came through for me and I have tried it and was very impressed. I was just curious if anyone else had a favorite.

Heywoooods drinks water....nearly a gallon a day.

most people walk around dehydrated (not to mention asphyxiated, innebriated, and exhausticated) but I try to maintain good hydration....my buzzing days are over - thank god I didn't hurt anyone but myself when I did drink.

No more fast food for over 15 years now and a strict excercise regimen keeps me in better shape now than when I was 30

Got a brand spanky new pair of Easton Stealth STS's and thinking about playing the greatest game on earth again...or maybe coaching again.

Water or coffee mostly

I used to like alcoholic beverages quite a bit, but I can't really afford to drink much anymore.

If I drink liquor, I go for whiskey. Usually I'd get "Old Crow". Might not taste as good as Jack Daniel's, but it cost 1/2 as much and by the 4th or 5th shot I didn't care anymore.

For beers I go with cheap stuff like Miller or Killian's Red. ******ss is nice once and awhile too, but it's pricey. Can't really say I've ever spent the extra money to try many of the fancy imports or microbrews.

Good Black Tea in the Morning, 3-5 bottles of water at work, a diet soda or iced tea (no sugar...yech) at lunch, water, sometimes skim milk for dinner.

I don't drink alcohol all that often any more (maybe once or twice a month), but when I do, I tend to lean more towards quality than quantity these days (although I sometimes manage to put predigious amounts away, like I was in college again). With that said:

Beer:
IPA (Bell's Two Hearted...highly recommended)
"Half-n-Half" (Guiness over Harp Lager)

Wine:
I like a petite Sirah if I can find it. We drink ice cold retsyna when fishing in the summer.

Liquor:
Lagavulin (16 y.o. single malt scotch)or a very good reposada tequila (Don Pablo, Patron, etc.). Both neat with a splash of water as a chaser.

Slumming? Case of P.B.R. Longnecks ice cold in a galvanized tub.

I've seen Old Peculiar, at least as it was 27 years ago, reduce a poet friend regularly to motor functions after a hard day's rhyming. I considered it lethal. My preferred on tap is ******ss, because, as the ads used to say, it's good for you. Bottle: Newcastle Ale. After the pub closes, Jamesons or John Walker. The next day: a Webley with one bullet.

Malt whisky for me, Oban, Lagavulin, Talisker, Caol Ila all favourites. As it is, no water ice or god forbid lemonade!! Violaters shall be burned at the stake. LOL

Taken in moderation and to relax with it can't be beaten. Also known as usige beatha or the "water of life". Took me a few years to get properly into whisky but enjoying it now.

DuxCorvan - like you, I:m a Cantabrian although I am from the New Zealand version of Canterbury.

For what it`s worth, my preferred drink is similar to what F16Matz posted - Belgian Ale, especially the Trappist ones. My favourites are Rochefort 6, 8, Gouden Carolus Ambrio (not Trappist I know). I`ve als recently become a fan of English ales, especially Fuller`s Extra Special Bitter and Golden Pride. All the beers mentioned above actually hav esome flavour to them, along with a hefty kick.

Tap water in southern California will make you swear off H2O forever...I believe that the water you get aboard ship in the Navy after three weeks at sea (with just a hint of diesel fuel contamination) is better tasting. Showering in it is bad enough.

But I do drink a lot of bottled water -- I don't care if it's out of a tap from somewhere else, at least it wasn't delivered via LA's water monopoly (I don't care if fish f**k in it, but those people in Hollywood are another matter).

However, my preferred form of liquid refreshment is Gevalia medium roast ground to the constistancy of talcum powder, and immediately run through a drip brew type coffee machine set to Strong. Add a teaspoon of honey, a dollop of heavy cream, drink hot or ice it down, it's all good. I drink a full pot of 10 or more cups a day.

I have also developed a taste for Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade on ice lately, though.

cheers

It's legal in the US also. Although the FDA has started to look into making water bottling companies change their labeling. Absopure? Tap water.

I can't believe how much people pay for bottled water. It's more expensive than gasoline. If you HAVE to have 'pure' water buy a filter and fill your own bottles. What a scam...

The ESB brewed on-site at the Sail & Anchor in Fremantle is superb. Meaty. Looking forward to downing several when I get back there in a month or two...

...but I digress. Bottled beer? My current preference is James Squire Pilsener. It tastes like a Pils should, with the advantage that it hasn't gone off being transported from Czechoslovakia. Urquel Pils is excellent, when it hasn't been buggered sitting on some dock in the sun for several hours on the way to Oz.

Mmmm. Beer.

As for beer I got hooked on Balboa when I was in Panama.

Lucky for me I can get the Sangria in the U.S. It's not as good as what I had in Spain, but eh. I don't really drink alcohol that often though.

My heavy habit is Mountain Dew. Also drink a lot of water because it keeps me well hydrated.

2 cups of coffee in the morning, water during the day, particularly when I'm working, and maybe a Kerns during lunch. I like to drink Coca-Cola as well, but usually during dinner.

For alcohol, usually scotch, neat. Also Molsons Canadian. But, I usually only drink before I have a gig.

Congrats Kongo Otto on your dryness!

I drank Dr. Pepper last night. It was mixed with a liter of Cpt. Morgan spiced rum...all gone now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

That`s for you to wonder and me to know! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Now, Dr. Pepper. What is it with that drink? I cannot stand it. It`s terrible. I hated it when I was 19, tried it again 10 years later, still awful. It must be an acquired taste, like Marmite, which I also can`t stand, but the rest of my family love.

Does that make me strange....? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

There is a mixed drink called a "Flaming Dr Pepper" that's really tastey. A shot of amaretto with some Bacardi 151 floated on top, IIRC. Light it on fire, wait a second, blow it out (important), and consume. Gives a Dr. Pepper aftertaste.

Years ago, a friend and I asked for it at a local Chili's, but the bartender didn't know it. We gave him the recipe, but screwed it up, instead telling him a shot of 151 and a floater of Amaretto. We were so hammered after 3 a piece we had to be escorted out and a cab called for us. D'oh! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I was in Germany 10 years ago and someone bought me a local beer/ale. I was told it was a special winter brew that was only made and served for one month each year. It was one of the best brews I have ever had...I wish I could remember the name of the town (or brew) but it has been lost in the fog of time. All I can remember was how good it was...The only reference/testament I have to why it was so good is that at that time I had the opportunity to try many local brews from Germany, Holland, and Austria (as I toured across Europe), and that in comparison with them it was very good.

General: Perrier or iced tea.

Alcoholic: Black Russians.

As a general rule I cannot stand beer. I've never had one that I ever felt tasted good.
