I have IL-2 the original and i have some questions :
I was wondering why, with maximun realism , fuel indicator is always in the same position (FULL!) and when the engine overheat it doesn't make any difference and engine continue to go and go and go .... somebody of you could explain me this ?

Thanks
Andrea.

1. The fuel indicator shows liters of fuel raminaing, not percentage of fuel remaining. Most fuel gauges only show 300 liters, and they will not move unless you have less than that.

2. The engine overheat gives you a lot of warning before the engine begins to fail. Usually the warning will be on for 3 minutes or more before the engine is damaged.

I haven't played the original IL-2 in a while, but I think the fuel gauge did never worked. Not sure about the reasons. Be sure though that you did not selected "Unlimited fuel" in the realism settings. When turning this off, you will run out of fuel eventually, although the fuel gague will keep marking "full".
Also if you keep running your engine in "overheat", it will eventually blow up (unless you have disabled this option in the realism settings).
