If you can call it that. I'm not particularly computer savvy at the ripe age of 14 so you'll have to bear with me.

First, I had a problem in the install. Not huge, probably just the web installer for DirectX 9.0c couldn't connect (funny, like every other Microsoft online thing I've used... ever i.e. FSX). I found a complete download, installed it, and got into the game.

First, since I am already familiar with Ubisoft Romania's way of doing things, I skipped Sub School and went straight to Career. Not shabby, I must say. Everything looked nice in the launch screens. I must say I was dissapointed at the lack of personalization options a la SHIII, where the player had a real choice between that new VII or that engine upgrade. Here, it is really a matter of "Single 50. cal mount" or for extra reknown (I wish i knew how to spell that) you could get.... a DOUBLE 50. cal mount! Joy!

So I move onto my first mission. This is where it went in a more downhill direction, although I cannot blame it on Ubisoft. My computer isn't exactly a thoroughbred with a whopping 512 mB of RAM and a X300. As a result, my FPS DIED. Stabbed, strangled, shot, and buried six feet deep. I stuck with it, however, just to explore. I came across a convoy, and was lining up a shot. For the record, I am confirming the chronometer bug. It doesn't work. Out of a spread of 3 torpedos (duds off so that I could my sanity) none hit. Being used to SHIII and my handy-dandy stealth-o-meter, I was then caught completely unawares by a destroyers. Here's where another few problems showed up: your crew don't really talk so much. In SHIII, your crew would give you heads ups such as "Destroyer in attack run" or "We're being pinging." Destroyer drops depth charges. My battery drops to zero. I believe I have found the reason for this "glitch." Depth charges destroy your batteries (along with everything else in your sub) and subsequently drain them. Anywho, I dropped like a rock and was destroyed. Grrr.

So, I give it another shot. I start out from Pearl, refuel at Midway (just missing the battle) and head to my assignment in the East China Sea. Lo and behold, I run into a "Huge European Liner." The thing was going fast... really fast... and I couldn't line up a torpedo shot ( I was by now using auto solutions...) so I took her out with deck gun. Pics:

Surfacing to attack. Notice the amazingness. Taken without filters; it bugged me at night.

It went boom! Note that as best as I can tell, lifeboats are not animated.

Another shot:

And completely unrelated is this one; which was just a really cool shot to me:

And, the bugs. I only got a few shots of them, and besides the above mentioned ones I had trouble with hydrophones (sonarman quite inept) and my air search radar keeps picking up ships. Also, bases on the map aren't color coded (Tokyo, for example, is in blue text). Planes detected on the air search radar showed up as merchants until entering visual range, whereupon they bombed me. Also are these:

Either this guy needs to lay off the dope, or something! (Rig for red glitch, crewmen's eyes turn red. Also, maybe because of my video settings, crewmen did not reflect the surrounding light. They would look the same not matter whether viewed in white light or red light.)

Also, I first noticed in one of the videos that the lights in the conning tower were constantly flipping on and off. This has not been resolved:

So all in all, SHIV has the potential to be a great game, it just needs the kinks to be worked outta it and I need a better computer! I hope that these issues may be addressed in the future and everyone will be happy.

Edit: I don't think the pictures are working, I'm going to try again with a different web host

Okay I got the pics working--- I know they aren't great but my brain was running outta my ears while I was madly trying to issue an order while my game was jumping around at 5000x
