Hey there, Iv been playing MMO's way to long now and i would like to get back into multiplayer combat flight games. The last time i play was back in 1998 when F-16 and Mig-29 came out. I remember that being really cool! The servers were always full for the most part and i really enjoyed it. Do people still play on these servers? and if so what IL2 do i need? i see there are a few different ones i can buy. which one dose everyone play?

thanks =p

Best to get the most recent Il2 1946. This has all of the previous content and is what most people are playing.

Oh, and welcome!

Hello,

Get IL-2 1946, it's got the whole stuff that you can buy.
Then download & install patch 4.08m and you'll be set to go online with most of the crowd (there's also a beta 4.09 patch & some mods, see all the threads here)

As said before buy IL2 Sturmovik 1946 and patch up to V4.08. All necessary info is available at the homepage (flyable planes, new maps, corrections, patches etc.)
And for playing online I recommend to use Hyperlobby. Most of the simmers you can find over there.

Make sure to have either rudder pedals or at minimum a twisty stick, the more knobs/sliders let
alone buttons the better. You won't be much good without decent rudder control, it's not
factored/arcaded in and these are prop planes.

Then there's either Track IR or setting up a webcam and free head tracking software along with
hat, either way is optional though highly recommended.

The reality level has come a long way since 1998. There's still very far to go but what used to
cut the mustard just isn't enough in IL2. Heh, what used to be enough in IL2 3 years ago isn't!

thanks guys, just ordered it off amazon so hopefully it will be here sometime this week. As for joy stick i just have the $25 Logitech 3d Pro. It is a twist handle nothing special though, if i like the game i will more than likely upgrade to a Saitek X52 Flight Control System. That head thing looks really cool, they have come a pretty long way from nova logic's old flight games.

Yo, I just got a Saitek X-52 pro, definitely an awesome and has made my flying way better. The biggest improvement is having the Rudder/Aileron/Elevator trim controls mapped onto the throttle controller, so you could instantly adjust trim... has made me more accurate, faster and more stable in flight. I still suck though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you're in the US be sure to check out this site http://saitekusa.stores.yahoo.net/recprod.html before ordering a new joystick.

Yes, it will.

Installation will take some special preparations and actions, but it's not too complicated: Vista Home Premium x64 and 1946 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/1921070116)
(Title specifically states x64, but it should work for 32-bit versions...)

...just to add. Once you get it running on Vista absolutely no problems. I find its actually smoother than XP...perhaps because of memory management being better but either way it works fine. Just the install portion is a bit whacked because of an old install program.

Definitely get IL-2 1946...its awesome. Will take some time to get used to be totally worth it.

Check out the Nugget's Guide and my "Straight From the Farm" campaign (see below). Both are good stuff for new players to the game.

Bearcat's Nuggets Guide is the best to initially get started. Some other good advice can also be found in a guide I wrote, which can be found here:

Hope that helps out,
Jay
