ROF is Rate Of Fire, I think 1 is realistic, 100 is hardly firing at all.

Propeller pitch changes the incidence angle of the blades of the propeller -making it 'catching' thick or thin 'chops' of air in every pass. It works like the transmission in a car: if you make the angle to be thin, then you use more efficiently power for the same engine RPM, but you sacrifice speed. (More power, better climb, less speed, more fuel usage). Thick angle allows you to have a faster cruise speed and decrease RPMs and fuel usage, but you'll find the aircraft to perform poorly if you need acceleration or climbing.

Good administration of proprller pitch is vital to have success if you have complex engine management enabled.

Absolutely. Conserving fuel is something you might associate with long flights, and thats right, but in Il-2 and especially online very few people want to fly huge distances, so on that score fuel economy is almost irrelevant.

However, if youre a fighter pilot, you know that the golden rule is never to take 100% fuel unless you really need it. Thats because full tanks have implications for acceleration, climb rate and so on, in short you are a more nimble aircraft without all that fuel.
So it follows that if you can manipulate prop pitch to eek out good fuel economy, you can make 50% fuel last the same as 75% or even 100%, or 25% fuel last like 50%.

Fuel management in the game is virtually non existent. Real planes have tanks that you can/have to drain first, then switch to others etc etc etc.
Also some planes of the era can dump fuel too.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

My monitor is, and has always been, very dark. I have adjusted it and the desktop settings as much as I can without negatively affecting any number of other games and programs I use. Il-2 is still a bit too dark for me though. Is there any was to raise the gamma level in 1946?

Another advantage besides fuel economy is control over engine RPM's and thus cooling efficency. Your basically running at or near the speeds the guys are with full power and pitch, accelleration isn't quite as good, but neither are you putting yourself in the hurt bag with an already cooked engine.

If you need to pour on the coals for a bit, you still can, the other guy can't, his priority is backing off to cool down in the thick of the fight.
