Hey guys.

I have just started the stuka campaign and am having trouble spotting ground units at anything above 1000 meters.

The problem is when I padlock a ground unit there is no triangle showing me where it is even though it is padlocked. I used to run Il2 orig in opengl and never had a problem. Is the no triangles a problem with direct 3d? Can I turn the triangles on somewhere?

I have a GF 3 64mg card and 44.10 dets.
It can't be a driver prob because the triangles have never appeared in D3d.

I need help, the last thing i want to do is turn the map icons on.

Also did real stuka missions fly at such high alt over the target? I would think it would be pretty hard to spot targets at 5000 meters!

good point i have been flying the stuka mission but with map icons on - i can't imagine how to spot the targets at the altitude you are supposed to fly at /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

as for padlock triangle- i don't think there is - but i could be wrong. sorry

If you want to see padlocked target, turn on gunsight view.

AFAIK ground objects aren`t marked by a triangle.Only airborne ones.

They are marked with an arrow, blue or red.

You can only see them when very low...must be a D3d thing.
Try padlock a friendly before takeoff.

I used to be able to see them any time I was padlocked to a ground target.

Common problem with Direct3D, icons and padlock triangles for ground and low flying objects get rendered behind ground textures. Try OpenGL instead.

Thanks Tully.

I cant go back to open gl though.

D3d clarity and lighting is great!

I think I will live with the map icons turned on.

Thanks again.

I only play with map icons on. You get little open arrows (not triangles) for ground targets. They only become visible (and effective for padlocking) whe you near the target. I normally fly at 2500-3000m in stukas - you do need a lot of space for your vertical dives.

The real problem is that there seems no way to padlock ships in FB. I hope that gets fixed in the proverbial patch.
