Yough!

I map trim to mousewheel. Do it! At the bottom of Controls menu, click the right side and roll the wheel -- I forgot which way I rolled it to set this up, but I think it should be -Z axis. If not, do again and roll it another way.

There is a file called rcu in your Il2/FB folder where you can define aliases for commands and alter the startup settings.
Open it with a text editor and at the bottom, add
@a name command to define an alias, or just the command to modify the startup settings.
For example,
@a fon fps START SHOW will let you use fon as a command to start and display the frame rate counter from the console when in flight, and
fps START SHOW will show the frame rate counter right after starting the game. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Console command instructions are in the Manual. In my rcu file, I just use "f" to start the fps meter, and "nf" to stop it. A wee bit more simple.

Wellcome to Forgotten Board

Shucks, I'll just post my rcu file ... and get another Online post count score hehe...

@set fast off
@set echo on
@set alias on
@set history 20

@alias h history
@alias s show

@alias f fps SHOW START
@alias nf fps SHOW STOP

@alias 10 mp_dotrange COLOR .01 DOT 10 RANGE .01 TYPE .01 ID 0.01 NAME 0.01
@alias 15 mp_dotrange COLOR .01 DOT 15 RANGE .01 TYPE .01 ID 0.01 NAME 0.01
@alias 20 mp_dotrange COLOR .01 DOT 20 RANGE .01 TYPE .01 ID 0.01 NAME 0.01
@alias q mp_dotrange COLOR .01 DOT 25 RANGE .01 TYPE .01 ID 0.01 NAME 0.01
@alias r mp_dotrange COLOR .01 DOT 25 RANGE 5.0 TYPE .01 ID 0.01 NAME 0.01

......interesting, Oleg programmed it so SHOW START has the same effect as START SHOW, to ease the Burden on us dogfighters. Sometimes, I do forget the attention to Detail he does here.

thanks. i now get fps displayed.

still clueless with the mp_dotrange. can't figure out the whole story on this mp_dotrange, LOD models, and visibility. had about 20 windows opened up last night after burning a hole in the search window(the unofficial user manual) and thought i had a handle on it but today i am still confused.

my understanding is that 1024x768 works better for visibility than higher resolutions for seeing aircraft because of code limitations. i read about the max setting of 25 for dot range but confused if this works off-line. basically i'm confused at what resolution works best for this sim.

mp_dotrange works the same for offline and mp

The higher the resolution the better, just watch the amazing sight of other aircraft that are just blobs at 1024x768. The only drawback is the Dots. Oleg told us we can use the Icons (http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif) but I refuse his offer, and prefer to suffer.

The code allowed simmers to vary Dots depending on their resolution in Patch 3.01, but was taken out at the request of simmers using low resolutions. This is not a code limitation.

so play at the highest resolution tolerable and set the dot from default 14 to 25?

or really setting the dot size is a personal preference. now my question is at higher resolutions, what is the best dot size without the "realistic" debate. i will try this out in the next few days. thanks.

does dot size only work if you use icons? haven't used them yet so another new topic to dwell on.

set DOT to 25 , set any you don't like to a minimum of 0.01 (or maybe 0.001) the numbers are kilometers.

Awssum

shucks, if you just copy/paste other people's webboard posts, you too can score 10,000 Online posts in no time. It worked for me, it can work for you!!!

Zoinks....
The dotrange setting really is one of
1. Personal taste
2. Monitor resolution
3. A chance for heated arguments on what is realistic or not.

Personally, I run at 1024 x 768 x 85Hz (monitor max) and find the default 14 fine. I know some that run at 1024 x 768 and insist on running with dot @ 25. They do this one the grounds that they (for whatever reason...being hardware, bad habits learned, etc) think is best.
To me this only has the dot appearing earlier and at exagerated distance....so I spend time flying to where the dot is to find it is further away, or "uncatchable". Some go as far as having FOE at default and FRIENDLY at 25, which is like...what's the point?
I can't run at higher than 1024 x 768 without my monitor running @ 60Hz so I can't comment on what looks best/ works there.
I can say I don't have any difficulty finding dots against the ground, with or without icons. (Some run basically with graphics off to help them see (read as "make easier")

Try these I came up with for an even playing field
FRIENDLY and FOE:
DOT @ default
RANGE @ 0.01
TYPE @ 1.75
ID @ 0.350
NAME @ 0.06
COLOUR @ default
