Hi,

I have just received FB+AEP Gold pack in the mail, loaded it up, reloaded PF over the top of that and am enjoying myself thoroughly. This is the most enjoyable flight sims I've ever played. Really good stuff.

Anyway, I might be getting greedy here, but I'll ask anyway, as a newbie to the series, are there any mods that people insist on having loaded?

Also, I see many 3rd party campaign add-ons that you must pay a premium for (Battle for Europe, The Last Days, Code Blue, Operation Barbarossa) -- Are any of these considered "must haves"?

Thanks for the help,

Mike

The game isn't open architecture, so there aren't any mods as such. Probably a good thing because it prevents the hacking flight and damage models that would kill online play.

However, there are a very large number of beautiful skins to replace the often rather crude default ones. The community skins site (www.il2skins.com (http://www.il2skins.com)) is off-line at the moment, but should be back before too long.

Once it returns, look for skins by CanonUK and Hammerd as some of the best available.

Regards,

RocketDog.

Hi Mike,
Theres no Mods, however there is free upgrades which are released by 1C:Maddox and UBI every so often. Generally you get a handful or so of new aircraft, possibly a new map or 2, along with Flight model (FM) tweaking, etc... Its generally accepted that as this is a sim which is controlled to be as near to accurate of real life possible and not a game like battlefield vietnam (BFV) for example which focusses purely on fragging, there wont be any mods as far as i can see, it would be far too complicated for the developer to add this ability to the sim what with all the work being done adding real world physics, and cutting edge technologies which you dont see in games like BFV because they are made more simplistic to cope with modding.

The 3rd Party campaigns you see for sale in the shops are not required, they are missions/campaigns, no new aircraft or anything like that. You can do the same by learning to use the full mission builder and speaking to other community people who make campaigns, they would be able to give you advice on how to make your own, if you have the time. Otherwise, they are not essential, but probably a worthy buy considerring the time saved, if you like theyre missions. Myself, i have flown some of the 3rd party missions, from Battle over Europe, and found them not to be very good at all compared to my own built missions. My opinion.

Good Luck, catch you online sometime <S!>

Ah, I did not know that about the Mods or the 3rd party campaigns. I may check out a 3rd party campaign just for fun.

As for on-line play, I'm still learning to fight AI. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for the info.

I'd have to say that this is my personal favorite Il-2 mod:

BoE is a good add on, it lets you fly Allied and Germen missions in France (some complaints as there is no England to land or take off from) but over all works well, and is fun

I would also say, TLDs is a very good add on, lots of missions and new campaigns, lots of new skins

if you a online player, they may not be worth it, but if you fly offline, that are great

both of these give the Dgen campaigns, debrifs and what not

Barbarossa is interesting, but the campaigns are scripted, so the debrifs are like when a mission end (don't care for that)

for a Mod, would have to say, IL-2 Mat Manager is a must have
