Any tips? I tried the repeater compass and it is not reliable. I had to ditch twice from lack of fuel!! The repeater compass had me flying in circles!! lol.

thanks

Repeater compass? Which aircraft were you flying?

360 degrees in a circle...find where you are on the map by landscape set a course (east is 90 south 180 etc etc.)and stick that heading until its time to change. Flying high gives you a much better view of the map. If you get really lost go up and figure it out. Biggest problem I see is folks panic...calm down you are not as lost as you think.

If you are in a German plane follow the ADF. After a long flight in enemy territory it usually points home.

don't join full real servers , they are only packed with persons who think everyone should use full real and only in full real is it really real.

I say nuts to those servers (and persons) and join another! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

try to see where you have to fly and make plane using the rivers below.
After a df, try to fly to a region that you see it contains more rivers or even small lakes...it's easier to recognize the place on the map...also, if any cities near, try to see on the map they relative position to forests and rivers...after you get your position just follow a river or a road...

I have never ditched, but had a couple of flights when I realy dug into the reserves...almost all of them in the P-39...that nasty radiocompass, not very intuitive...flew out of the map a couple of times, until I gave up and started land navigating.

It can be difficult on maps with a bazillion little rivers all over the place. Other maps with more definative features are a little easier. But I found now that asking for a home-base vector (tab>3 then 7 I think) works online now. I'm not sure it did before. I never find getting to the target to be too difficult. It's getting home after a scrap that can cause problems.

Hello,

When you take off from your base, have a good look around and pick out some Big identifying landmarks like forrests and cities which you would see a long way off. Forrest shapes are always helpful.

If you flying a steady course for a period of time just add or subtract 180 from your headed bearing, This will give you a back bearing to head along in the direction from which you came, or even to your home base if you flew a steady course.

In a Dogfight it can be difficult to remember headings, flight times and bearings while trying to evade, So as a rough guide make a quick visual note of the position of the sun. It may be at your 2 O'clock as you spot an enemy, when you need to head home make sure its at your 8 O'clock.

hope this helps in some way.

thanks for the reply guys.

I fly the bf-109s and the repeater compass I would think points toward home base online. I was playing a winter server this morning and the first few times ran out of fuel and ditched in the snow!!! I wish there was a way to change it. I usually fly with 50% fuel for better performance, but now its totally inadequate. On real servers, bases are far apart, so you gotta patrol awhile.

I always take 100% in full real, cause you never know how long you will be searching, especially if you want to get the jump on unsuspecting enemys. I usually use a combination of roads and rivers to find out where I am and try to follow whatever feature will lead me to base or to another recognizable feature. I used to live way out in the sticks though, so maps are very intuitive to me.
