Well after some 2 yrs of planning my family, whole family[Mom,Dad,Brothers,Sister, inlaws,Wife, kids]are all going to Hawaii at the end of the week,we'll be there for 10 days[I can't wait]
My son and Dad and I plan on spending at least 1 day at Pearl,we'll be staying on the Island of Maui so we'll have to take a short hop over.
Since we all have some common interests in the Community I wonder if anyone has some good recommendations on any other interesting sights[Military or otherwise]that you think we would enjoy.I feel very fortunate to be able to go and enjoy this vacation with my whole family, hopefully I'll come back with a nice tan and alot of cool pics to post!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Been living in Hawaii for ten years....love it. Oahu is VERY builtup and Maui is very touristy.
Military sites on Oahu. Go to pearl Harbor early. Sign up for a tour to the Arizona memorial later in the day. This will give you a short movie and a boat ride to the site. Very powerful.
While you wait for your tour directly next to you is the Bowfin WW2 submarine museaum. very nice you can go thru the sub and they have a bunch of other stuff on display including a Kitain torpedo.
Other options at pearl harbor. The mighty MO tour. very highly recommended. Also they have finished the first hager on ford island which is the new "pacific aviation Mueseum" first phase. Have not been yet.

You can also hike to pill boxes constructed for the invasion that never came at Maukapu point and Lanikai.
in a rush sorry about the spelling.

When you say you'll be staying on Maui, will it be with relatives or a hotel? Maui is the second largest island there and very nice, a little slow paced than Oahu but nice. Good choice on selecting Pearl Harbor. You'll get to see the USS Missouri Battle Ship and let us not forget the USS Arizona Memorial. Don't forget to visit the Ford Island Museum also. And most important of all, don't forget the sunblock. Get at least a number 50. Hurricane season just kicked off here so it will be hot and muggy. Hope you and your family enjoy your stay and best wishes. Heres the links.

Oh yea, one last thing, they are planning to re-do the visitor section so they kicked out most of the vendors there so take along water and a light snack. Otherwise if you buy it there( if they are still there ) it will be very expensive. Also don't forget to get a ticket for the documentory movie ( it's free ) of Pearl Harbor. Its a first come first serve thing. The ticket makes sure you get to see the movie. The theater only holds so much people. You may have to wait in line but well worth the time. I would take a cab or he bus due to parking is a b*tch there. Hope this info helps.
Best Regards http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif Aloha and Mahalo

On Ohau you should also go to the Punchbowl. The Pacific Military Cemetary. Just up the hill from Waikiki. Very moving early morning or at sunset.

If it is possible, ask about going to Fort Shafter. From it's club, there is a view overlooking Pearl Harbor that is amazing. I believe the area is approximately the same location where the Japanese spy observed the harbor. It's a active military base so you may not be able to get on so ask the folks at Pearl Harbor if you can.

Thanks everyone for all the sugestions,I was on a prearanged tour, unfortunatly Ford Island and the Bowfin were not part of it.
I can't say this with enough emphasis,If you get a chance to go to the beautiful state of Hawaii,YOU MUST GO TO PEARL HARBOR/USS ARIZONA MEMORIAL!!!!!It is a very moving experience!!!

Awesome pics, Badaboom. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

I went to Honolulu back in 1988, unfortunately well before the Missouri arrived, but I did pay my respects to the USS Arizona. Indeed, very moving.
I've been meaning to head back, but I want to wait until my son is old enough to at least eat solid foods and walk. Oh, and save up the money.

What's really interesting is you can stand on the MO where the war ended and be looking at where it started (for the U.S.).
