A while back I got a projector so I could fly my Sturmoviks and Stukas on my wall - I've had a blast playing IL-2/FB/PF on my wall that way, but I haven't been doing that for a couple of months or so since I got my TrackIR and have been trying to figure out how to mount it when I'm facing away from my PC looking at the wall, so I kinda forgot about it.

Tonight I fired up SH-3 and ran it through my projector - man oh man!! you just gotta experience slashing through the North Atlantic on the surface chasing down a convoy at flank speed in a driving rainstorm with 15m/sec winds on a 100" diagonal screen with the Das Boot surface chase music blaring out of your gramophone - TOTALLY AWESOME!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

What I don't get is... where do people find a big enough wall for these things? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I designed my new office/room layout specifically so I could use the wall opposite my computer desk as my screen for the projector - the projector sits on top of the computer desk hutch, aimed at the opposite wall - I have surround-sound speakers, and wired up a switch box from parts at Radio Shack to reverse and flip the speaker wires so the sounds are correct when I turn around http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm using an Epson Powerlite S1 projector I bought a couple of years ago or so - when they first dropped below $1,000. I think they're about $650 or so now, last time I saw one in the store. There are probably better ones out that have also dropped in price, so you'd just have to shop around now - this one works real well and was better than anything else that wasn't about $2000 at the time I bought it, but I'm not sure how it would stack up against what's out there now. Only problem is a bit of a "screen-door" pattern effect that somethimes detracts a little from my Sturmovik flying - doesn't seem as noticeable on SH-3 fortunately, and in any event it is a small price to pay for seeing it play out on such a huge screen http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Still, if I were looking to buy another one today I might try to find one with a different type of projection technology that might not suffer from that effect

I have an Infocus X1, which I bought quite a few months back for my home theatre downstairs. I did however hook it up to my computer for a while when I first got it and played a little Dungeon Siege LOA on it. I didn't find the quality up to where I wanted it. Could possibly be because my projectors native resolution is 800x600. It was still pretty awesome to use a huge screen like that! If you do decide to get one, they have come way down in price, so you can probably get one 10 times better than mine for less than what I paid. And preferably a 1024x768 native resolution, and a high contrast ratio. Keep in mind the number of hours the bulbs are good for, if you do a lot of gaming it won't take long to burn out! It may cost the price of a decent CRT for a new lamp!

Good luck! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

This is exactly why I want (nope, make that DEMAND) a resolution fix...What i wouldn't give for a 1280 * 720 resolution for use on my Sanyo Z3 PJ - fantastic for HL2, Far Cry and other widescreen compatible games
