View Full Version : What We've Learnt From The New Trailer

I'm going to keep this clean of speculation, so no Repeater Crossbow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The Duomo will be accessible from the inside.

Eagles will still fly around LoF points.

Pick-Pocketing has been redone.

Colour-Scheme speculation was correct - Florence will be an earthy red colour and Venice will be a blue-y colour.

Counters are still one of the main points of combat.

Throwing knives have returned, and can be used in conjunction with other weapons. (!!!)

Dodging/Sidestepping has come back.

Hidden-Blade Counters have also returned.

Weapons, if hit hard enough, may break, but are still usable.

We are capable of throwing (and killing) our enemy with our, or their, weapons at any time.

And finally, Double-Eagle Strike!

There we go. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Edengoth

Yes, I saw no throwing knives either.
0:53 Also, "pickpocketing has been redone"? We don't know if that little interaction with the arms was pickpocketing. I thought it looked more like message-passing. He was touching that guy's hand. So either bromance or that guy was helping him, I think.
0:43 And about the LOF points. It could've just been a bird. We didn't see whatever it might have been circling around, or even if it was circling at all.
Sorry to get nitpicky, but you're the one who said no speculation. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Edit: included the time points in the video that two of the speculations likely came from.

I only saw counters, no throwing knives at all. The trailer didn't show pickpocketing or blending either. Ezio never bumbed into anyone, he only dodged.

We still havn't seen Ezio swim, do you think Ubi gave up on that idea and now Ezio will magically jump out of the water towards land like Alex mercer?

Edengoth
09-03-2009, 09:37 PM
I think not showing off swimming is just Patrice's insistence on keeping some things a surprise. Smart move if you ask me.

seems as now you can hidden blade assassinate someone from a higher height, since in AC1 you had to be above a building above 1 meter to do the high profile hidden blade kill..

We already knew the pickpocketing has been redone before the trailer because Patrice mentioned it in several times E3 interviews. It was also described in detail from the articles about gamescom.

I don't think a weapon will randomly break in combat the way you picture it. That was just a counter that Ezio did and it's likely that he doesn't bother to pull what's left of the spear out of the guard's body. It's like the move in the E3 demo where he gets the halberd stuck in the guard's body. The counter forces him to abandon the weapon he took.

The trailer was simply epic. Although I do notice counters have made a return, I do hope they arent relied upon as much as they were in Assassins Creed 1. They were such an easy and dominant part of combat.

From the trailer though looks like theyve put some nice interesting kill styles in http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I also read that certain weapon types will be unable to block other specific types.

Ex: A sword might not be able to counter an axe. I don't know if that specific instance is true, but it's just an example I'm using.

I agree. Batman:AA is a tweek on the AC fighting system but the enemies are much more aggressive, and it is possibly the best fighting in a game I've ever played. This is coming from a guy that doesn't like button sequence fighting...simpler is better.

In AC1 countering was the core tool in your arsenal. You simply sat there and waited for them to attack and pressed a button. It was easy, it got boring unless you tried to make the combat harder for yourself. What I was trying to say is that I hope its not that easy this time, and there are other useful ways to kill you enemy other than simply countering. I hope that we arent soley using counters this time round.

thekyle0
09-05-2009, 08:15 PM
You didn't have to use counters. You could have also used the combo attacks or even Shock and Awe.

SBRedFlag
09-05-2009, 10:41 PM
I, for one, used a combination of defense breaks and regular attacks, as well as some combo/stylish kills. And I would finish off the cowering or taunting enemies with the hidden blade.

But there seems to be more variety in the new game, so everyone's happy http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

It wasn't the core tool in my arsenal I guess. I would only use it when someone made a move against me, otherwise I'd be attacking first.

I know you didnt have to use them, on my second third fouth and fifth play throughs I tried to stay away from counters as much as possible cause i used them so much in my first. Everyone ive come across has said combat was far to easy, and mostly used the simple counter technique.

He hits the guard with the hammer thing in the ribs, which I guess is kinda painful, so the guard drops his weapon. Then Ezio smacks his face.
