View Full Version : Why no rockets on the P39?

I am plugging through the Leningrad campaigns in my P39 and am really enjoying it.

Unfortunately they are making me bomb some targets now, which I stink at.

I would rather fire rockets like they let me do on the Sturm, Yak1B, Lagg and Jug.

Anyone know why rockets are not available on the Cobra?

Thanks guys.

Do you have any references that show rockets being used from a P-39?

I used to fly P-39's all the time and always wished for rockets.

No TC, there was no rockets in P-39. Bombs only.

Bombing in the P39 is a blast (pardon pun) as all you gota do is hit a 2 or 3 second delay in the fuse and be able to "place" that bomb in any spot and from any height you like/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I may be wrong but the P39 did'nt have any "hardpoints" under the wings to mount rockets on, thus no rockets.

Like SJ says, just put 2-3 secs delay on the bomb, dump it and run. Works every time /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

No rockets, but that 37mm cannon can blast the crap out of ground targets pretty good.

This is a fantastic plane and very fun to bomb with. Yes, I use a 2 sec bomb delay. Like has been stated the 37mm cannon is perfect for taking out ground targets.

Use a 2-3 second delay on the bomb. That way you can get in REALLY REALLY close, lay the egg on top, and get out before it goes. I find diving down a 45* angle helps. Align the target just below the crosshairs, and drop just before you need to pull up. Remember, close only works in horse shoes and hand grenades, but with a 500 pound bomb, just get it in the ballpark http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Maybe. I do know they had wing mounts for bombs were the P-39 did not. Also the wing for the P=63 was compleatly new.

Hello,

In VVS service, though gone through the tests, P-39s were never equipped with rockets operationally. It was considered that the firepower was quite sufficent, so only bombs were used for the ground attacks.

But a lot of P-63s delivered to VVS since 1944 were equipeed with rocket rails for 6 RS'.
