S! all,

I think it´s time to take up the issue again. Please take a look at: http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view-topic.asp?name=us_il2sturmovik_gd&id=zdvtf

You will find opinions (including mine) on the subject there. Question is: What do you consider good manners in an online game? Would some coding help us get rid of teamkillers - "MaxTeamKill=0" in the confg-file for example?
How can we encourage better behaviour or maybe even teamspirit & thus boost the fun online?

A "max teamkill=0" may seem like a good idea but it's not workable.

The game makes no discrimination regarding pilot intent. If you're preparing to take off and someone respawns right in front of you, a tk results. Trying to take someone off your buddie's six may result in a errant shot and a tk. Mid-air collisions with friendlies during a furball...well you get the idea.

Is tk'ing that big a problem? In all the games I've flown on-line, I've only seen deliberate tk'ing 3 or 4 times.

From limited experience in HL I've only been TK'd once and was immediatley apologised too.

What I have seen is that another player seems to make an easy kill (lil ol' me) /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif and then keep coming back for the points.

The player was good and killing others too but I appeared to be target No.1 on his list as it was good for points.

It did get entertaining because he was good enough to kill me despite soem pretty hard manouvering and with short bursts but I did seem to be a 'point factory'. I also noticed thta once he'd been downed a few times he left the server.

Maybe dinner was on the table, maybe not..../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well if people keep butting into my fights Im gonna start to let em have it regardless of points penalty.Im talking about me being at close range and getting hits and this guy starts getting between me and enemy,Im not going to put up with that anymore. If he stays behind me and shoots without hitting me thats fine but Im not gonna back off just cause he tries to shoulder his way in a fight that I was in control of.

Where do you fly Walter? Ubi or HL?

I think a good way to implement it would be via the scoring.

If somebody breaks -400 points then they get auto-kicked.

For the innocent mistake (and we've all done it), a -400 point threshold would allow -300 for the team-kill plus a -100 point allowance for any friendly collateral damage caused through crashing into your own ground units etc.

Also, it would be nice if TKers could be removed by the other players if the host isn't present in the room (their fave haunt). When it becomes clear some cat-shagger is TKing the other players could each type something like "PlayerNobhead - Kick" in the console window. When enough players have done this...bye bye TK-boy. This method is open to abuse as it's self regulating but the vast majority would respect the responsibility.

Good idea Lixma.

I was in a server the other night at UBI hosted by Bizon when we encountered one of the worst tkers I have ever seen.I was on the six of a 109 and almost out of ammo when I see one of my team mates coming in fast from my left, whew what a relief I was thinking. Not true the guy dives in behind me and proceeds to blow my yak out of the sky.

I figured ok it was an accident, so I re fly only to find the guy waiting over our own runway to vulch his own teammates. He was finally shot down by an enemy plane so I quickly grabbed a p47 with rockets and proceeded with one mission- not to let him leave the ground , well it worked and he finally left the server.

Bottom line is tkers suck....

Butting in to a fight aint "teamwork" it increases the chance of accidental friendly fire and collisions.People that butt in are only thinking of themselves.Isee it all the time, its rediculous when more than two planes are pursuing an enemy, though when I have 4,5,or 6 chasing me I get great satisfaction when they ram into each other or blow one of their wings off by accident.

It's funny how many of these experiences take place at Ubi. I stopped flying there because of the general lack of respect players had for each other. That's not to say there weren't some great people there as well, though.

I know one chance is not really enough but I spent about an our at UBI, and well it just didn't do it for me.

Bit like walking into a favourite pub, and then popping next door to the video arcade.

Suddenly found myself sitting at the bar again!

I'll try again /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Ya its the default client so we get a few people that don't spend much time in FB, and just hastle people. But they always leave shortly after purchase from online anyway. I found that the dorks that rage at UBI, also fly at HL. A few of them anyway, not sure what that means, all seeing eye or what but regardless, I have had more luck with people at UBI being friendlier. Except I suppose since FB is new we are getting jerks up the wazoo coming on. I presume in 5 months they will get bored and move on.

Killshooter

That's the only proper and effective solution.
But the people playing this sim ain't never heard of that before.

Killshooter...is that when a TK'er gets damage to their own plane, instead of damage being dealt to the teammate's plane?

If it is, count me out, as then the TK'ers will just jump in front of you every chance they get, in the hopes that you will hit them instead of the enemy.

If it isn't, please explain the concept, and accept my apologies /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

If the host is using FB Daemon she can set a negative score kick limit. Problem solved /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I just created two scripted missions with FBdaemon1.4 and a readme said there was an option of kicking players with a score of say -1000. I don't use it because people behave very nice on my server.

I host it on ubi.com because imo this program is better for communication than HL. Apart from that on HL I often find people only talking russian or finnish...

I only seen a delibrate TKer once on HL. We where in a Coop (in the good ol' Il-2 days) with a group of four heavily laden Il-2's. All of a sudden, a guy starts shooting at the other Il-2's. the first one was so surprised and couldn't attempt a manouevre to evade the friendly fire, he crashed. The second one was lightly damaged. I was lagging a bit behind because I had a heavier load-out. The second Il-2 made an evasive action and they where both more or less coming towards me. I managed to take the TKer head-on and he crashed.

I didn't feel very good about that, I got -400 points and felt like the actual bad guy.

The other side of the story is: alot of ppl have difficulties telling friends from enemies in full-real servers and every now and then, friendly fire comes into play, sometimes resulting in a kill. That's why a negative score limit should allow for one or two friendly kills. If someone can make a script for that, pls take it into account.

what should be banned is being a parasite: i.e I saw someone's wing off/light them on fire when someone else follows them to the ground fireing, and that someone else gets my kill.

Still, TK'ing is inexcusable.

agreed

if they were flying as leader and wingman they would alternately break and engage taking turns at going high and watching for other bandits ..

two planes on the 6 of someone else is not teamwork at all they get in each others road and theer is no protection form another bandit coming in behind and taking out both pursuers

Anyone here play Americas Army?

In that you can 'vote' to kick players. If the host is not present in FB then it might be an idea to use a similar feature /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Also bad language (hey ! the kids!) and name-calling as well as idiotic references like being called a Nazi (Yeah I've had that pleasure /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif ) or other such crap.

Would be a nice feature with say 70% of players need to agree to kick the A$$Hat in question.
