View Full Version : Why does FB sometimes get buggy during multiplay?

Has anyone else noticed that FB will sometimes "sour" the FM's of the planes after a while of online flying? I had suspected this ocassionally before the patch, and today I flew online for the second or third time after patching (about an hour or so of playtime). I am sure I noticed buggy behaviour.

Today I flew on a dogfight server. I started out in the Fw190A9, and later switched to an IL2T for torping a few ships. Then I flew the Yak3 a while. After a I'll guess my 7th or 8th respawn, my planes (any plane I selected) seemed unwilling to climb. Takeoff was tough. Very strange, since all had been well just a few moments before. Then I noticed my Yak3 had a tough time turning with an La7. I knew something was amiss by now, and then it happened...

I had lost aileron controls from gunfire, and I tried to steer my IL2 with the rudder. Pressing full left rudder did not result in the IL2 rolling left, but instead RIGHT! Pressing right rudder rolled the plane left! Hmm... Perhaps damage causing trouble?

I respawned in a Yak3, and low and behold, the backwards rudder effect STILL was happening! After a respawn, and in a different plane type to boot. This was coupled with the previously occuring lazy climb.

This continued until I left the server, and when I restarted FB, the effect was gone. All was back to normal again. So... does FB slowly "glitch out" during online play? How often does this happen to others? Is it always "noticeable" or can there sometimes be very subtle reductions to speed, or climb or roll rate?

And it's NOT a side effect from the patch, as I was seeing this same thing under FB v1.0 from time to time.

My gut feeling is that your hardware is somehow to blame. I have played online almost every day since the IL-2 demo days and never had this happen to me or anyone else, as far as I can remember.

Initially, I imagined that my joystick was our of calibration when this first started happening. But FB, and windows, as well as other sims show a correct calibration.

Today, I checked to see if my joystick was responding correctly in game by looking at the pedals in the cockpit, and going external and watching the rudder movement. Each time it was correct, with left input causing left rudder and pedal deflection, but the planes rolled right or vice versa. And still, how could a hardware fault be corrected by restarting FB?

Thinking more about this, I've remembered that once or twice in the La5FN (pre-patch) I would get this strange effect. During my takeoff, the La5FN would often begin to fly at under 100km/h, but it both looked and controlled awkwardly until the speed was above 175km/h or so. This is outside the La5's flight abilities of course.

Mind you, this only happens to me say, once out of 50 times I fly online, and I've not seening in a long while (haven't played online alot in a while) and I've NEVER seen this happen offline. Perhaps my install of FB had some errors.

I just wondered if any others ever saw this happen.

I feel your pain.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I'm having some minor problems in the FMB that others don't seem to have. Kind of strange. I'm currently trying a complete re-install to see if I can get it straightened out.
