Just watched it. Very good indeed. Some graphical mistakes, such as all P-51B's being coded B6*S and the F-18 at the end having insignia on both upper wing surfaces but that is me being REALLY picky. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I was a bit suspect of the P-51's and the Bf109's all being in line astern formation at one point in the dogfight but then again what do I know. I've seen it several times in IL2! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

On the whole I found it very interesting and informative with the best computer graphics I've seen other than the Air Crash Investigation series (which I don't really watch as I'm a nervous flyer at the best of times, ironic for an IL2 fanatic!) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

To sum up I would consider it the best ACM documentary I have seen, if only for Robin Olds ****ging off his former superiors-my kind of leader! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Just watched it and yes it was good.

The only thing I thought was not so good was the fact that it was all about American victories, no mention of Germans victories in dogfights or other countries.

Comments like 'the p51 could out manouvre any enemy plane' makes it pretty obvious it was made in the USA and adapted for British television with new voice overs etc.

Would have been nice to hear about some of the Luftwaffe and British Aces and their victories too, with and maybe a more balanced view. A few of Hartmanns tactics would have been great to see.

Still a good watch tho!

Yea man, I wished the same when i first saw it. I still liked it tho. Also I liked the way they would kinda pause the battle and look at it from a stratigic perspective.

I really enjoyed it, and would agree its one of the best ive seen despite it being from only a US perspective. I loved the historical skins on the BF109's, and the fact that i use that same skin in this game sometimes. The stories were quite tense and sometimes made me feel like i was really there as i pictured the situation.

Something that caught me was how i could understand every word they were saying and visualise myself in the same situation. Before playing this game i would never of been able to do that. Quite amazing really!

Absolutely!

I am still trying to visualise how to get from in front of a Enemy to behind , in a plane with a lesser turning circle, like the Me109 vs Spit or FW190 vs La5.

I know they showed it a few times in the program, but I just cant visualise how to pull it off properly.

Will have to study it again. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Despite the Rah-Rah level (some medium degree of propaganda depending on how touchy you are)
which needs viewer self-filtering the actual tactical lessons and way of viewing them in that
video are very good compared to say book accounts with fewer working details. Perhaps the
Us vs Them is needed just to keep average viewers watching... there should be like programs
made for other countries then the pure Fans can argue end results while the rest get the
real learning.

I would like to see that too, but i dont think the cost would overide the profit. Plust legalities maybe?

It is a matter of people with knowing and skill teaming up with veteran aces like perhaps
Gunther Rall (would have me nailed to my seat just listening) going and finding sponsors.
Here in the US there is History Channel and PBS for two. Perhaps get a historic society
and museum to underwrite some and make the video for those with all get rights to show
and whatever else they pay for, like sell.

The action was from a computer flight sim with added graphics and live the men telling
the story in detail from their view. That takes some collaboration between teller and
artists. If the makers work cheap or free then the costs shrink.

Yeah, possible. It could be sold limited rights to channels like History, be sure.

Bob Caruthers on the UK History channel gets Veterans to talk on his shows and they are always very good progs.

Battlefield, Tanks and other series I cant think of, excellent shows.

All you would have to do is interview pilots rather than Tanks commanders.

I am sure pilots cant ask for much more money to talk, you dont have to get Gunther Rall every time.

Shall we start up a company and try and do it? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif We will get into contact with the History Channel UK and ask them how much they pay for a program such as BAttlefield, then we could budget accordingly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Screen it in the UK and MAxguns screen it in the US. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have some of the Tanks series from off the net, English speech and Swedish subtitles.
Very interesting as is the Battlefield eps I have.

I have a game I play when watching which is spot the errors. Some others would beat my
scores but it keeps me closer to objective and there are many blunders in all of those
shows. Like a veteran pilot telling me that what I know was done in WWI was invented in
WWII and sometimes even getting the country wrong. But I watch anyway and I have the film
footage.

Whoever would produce such a show must have high quality camera and good sets, lighting
and sound. Nothing even slightly cheesy will get taken except some part for ridicule.
There is also the graphics to illustrate the talking parts. It must be high quality
output but now that is not so hard or expensive to do. The work in creating and editing
is labor of love.

Somehow I think that the Finns might get something like this out, or even from Russia.
Speak the home language and let the subtitles be Engish and see how that fares in Europe
and East (hehehe). I say the Finns because they already got the pilots together and
I think filmed the event. I dunno the video quality but that is not replacable if even
one of those pilots is no longer able to do it again. And to me, those guys did ask
good questions and get good answers on the level of the US Dogfights show. If they are
able to clarify totally on any points or supplement it then wow, even better! Add in
the graphics and with all they have I bet a small series illustrating a set of points
and principles is possible.

Top show for most of us here would be an Oleg Maddox show on Learn To Fly! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
Of course the tools of demonstration would be the latest MG sim and real flying video,
yes? Just, speak Russian Oleg! Sell in Russia and let the others put subtitles!

Maybe because I am? Why you think not suddenly?
Really I think that people are people everywhere, I like to see things from everywhere.
When you see only your own views then you see less, I want the more.

Usenet alt.binaries.--something or other military videos--

Actually back in my RB3D days I had a tight wingmate who was in Sweden the whole time.
His handle was Geier and he was a very good friend as well as a kicka$$ pilot and fighter.
We were even enough to play the loose deuce style and bad news for many others online.

For Swedish here maybe I have good news for you if you want the hot peppers and sauce.
We chatted and emailed, one time he says he can't good peppers and we here have so many
varieties. So I sent him the most hot and big bottle of hot but same time emailed to
see if he could find an oriental store or grocery and before my box got there he already
the fresh peppers all he wanted. Those cargo jets have really brought the world to our
doors, good as well as not!
