Forgive me if im wrong but is it really worth doing the campaigns for the HE-111 and the TB-3? i mean you may as well be playing Microsoft Flight Simulator you fly in a straight line for half an hour press a few keys then go home is it really worth it or is there some form of ridiculous kick you can get out of it, i mean they are only useful on multiplayer as a moving heap of guns
?

I think once you get up in rank and lead a flight, it can be pretty fun.

There's always the autopilot and time compress options, which I admit to using on occasion.

Yes it is worth it. You fly in a straight line to the target area in fighters as well, so don't see your point there.

When you do get there and you get bounced by fighters you have to stay in formation whilst your comrades are slowly knocked out of the sky. You have that feeling of dread that it's going to be you next. You can man the gun positions if you want, I did find it more of a challenge to keep formation whilst being attacked (the AI gunners are better shots than me anyway!) and keeping my nerve.

Then you have to nurse your crate home whilst being harrased by the enemy. It's fun an insight to how difficult it must have been for these crews.

Well, I like it anyway /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Do you do all the fancy bombight stuff? The bombsight's a cool gadget, but I've never taken the time to learn to use it properly.

If it doesn't appleal to you. Why are you asking? Do one mission and see if you like it.

I know I like the fighters so I don't even bother to try the big bombers.

Hehe, I'm just the opposite. Fighters bore me nearly to tears. I fly the Stuka, IL2, He111 and TB-3 nearly exclusively and rarely venture into a fighter.

I love managing the different engines...trimming her up, offsetting the engine RPMs to counter drift...plotting my course...what a rush!

In fighter campaigns you zip around and maybe you see bad guys and maybe you don't. I plod along at 250kph (if I'm lucky) and have to sneak by the fighters. If I make it I am rewarded with having to fly straight and level and 200-250 kph while heavy flak pounds away at us. Dodging flak at 300+ kph is for wussies. Takes big brass ones to go straight and level right over them.

But when I unleash those 30 SC-50s or 6 SC-250s and see lots of things go BOOM! it's sheer joy.

Last night I flew a scripted DF server in the TB-3. 5 TB-3 sorties to an enemy base. 4 of those I returned heavily damage with multiple crewman dead, no instruments and in 2 cases only 2 engines left running. Landing was interesting... Final tally was 16 enemy aircraft destroyed (including 2 shot down by my gunners), 4 artys, 4 AAA and 27 enemy vehicles.

Last mission left me with No 1 engine blown clean off the aircraft, no 3 on fire (used up two extinguishers to put her out. Got it restarted but only at 30% power. No 2 was smokin badly and No 4 was the only one running.

Half way home 2 and 3 died for good and wouldn't restart. No 4 started overheating trying to keep the beast in the air. She finally seized 20 klicks from home and I had to bail out. About 5 seconds after we bailed she exploded and my chute was hit by one of the engines and I died...lol.

What a blast...

Right on WWSensei! Flying bombers is a blast. The thing that seems lacking in the game either offline or online is the lack of fighter escorts. If I remember correctly the the early stages of war were flown without cover but later missions had it. Wouldn't it be great online to at least have a few AI fighters as escort in a bombing mission to keep humans off your back for a few minutes at least. Or how about a few AI bombers to fly alongside you to give you better odds of making it to the target alive? Yup, I love the strategic aspects of
bomb runs.

Some guys can't say what they like without putting something else down. Pretty sad.

I've never really tried them, but it sounds like I had better give it a go. As mentioned above, however, the bombsight is a complete mystery to me. Are there instructions or a tutorial around somewhere?

Flying bombers is my way of life. I do fly the Jug but only for bombing purposes. I do not like dogfights coz I'm not in a squadron. Venturing in a dogfight room is not my idea of fun. If the server does not allow bombers or at least the Jug I don't join. As for heavy bombers they are really fun. I do my own missions and I climb to 5000, pretty hard for the AI to keep the pace. Online, nobody bothers to fly above 2000. Ihve a quite life with this. Learning the bombsight is pretty straightforward. The most difficult part is to keep the plane steady. he rest is a pieece of cake if you use bombsight automation. And yes , I fly only cockpit on always.Even offline.

I typically fly 109's in the VEF, but I like to get into a dogfight server and take a TB-3 up. I've got my gunnery down pretty tight, and even with 190's and such coming after me I can get 5+ air to air kills in one trip. Not to mention getting to hammer their base too.

Every take-off is optional, but every landing is mandatory!

Have to say I enjoy the HE111.

On the scripted server I fly on (Bbloke on UBI) we have torpedo missions in the beginning.

Holding it straight and steady at 300+Kmh at 20M whilst taking a pounding from Yaks, LAs and others takes some doing.

Actually getting to release point and then flicking to external to watch the torpedos tracking in is a buzz.

Then dodging and weaving to get back for a reload, sometimes actually making it but with fewer control surfaces than I would like is also a great buzz.

Last night we had four HE111s flying in formation, the tactic worked reasonably well as two of us got through to the objective. It does make for a team oriented game!

I also like to fly high cover for other HE111s in a FW190A9, for variety. Although I and a fellow HE111 pilot went to the aid of an LA7 pilot being attacked by a Yak and Hurri. Our combined guns (and the taunt of a nice fat juicy target) lured the Hurri away. He didn't survive /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

It adds a whole new dimension to the game, and flying the HE111 with the cockpit on is great!

Online I almost exclusively fly He-111 on Greatergreen (if I can connect that is), usually nobody notices me at 4500m, I occasionally get shot down right after take-off or on final approach. Flying fighters get me all paranoid.

This will be short.
Is it really worth flying a HE-111?. Bite your tongue.!You are forgiven/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Being able to survive a bombing mission online is an accomplishment in itself. You have to land and taxi off the runway as well.

Hello,

in FB there are already tutorials how to use the bombsight. Did you see them? They're quite useful. You can view them when you go to the main FB screen (the first one after you have started FB) and click on "tutorials" (or something like that, I only have the German version of the game). Now you can see many great tutorials about different planes. You can learn how to fly bombers, how to use the bombsight etc.

Important for bombing is to know the TAS (True AirSpeed). Since I only play with cockpit on I printed the IAS(Indicated AirSpeed)/TAS Chart from the second CD out and put it next to my monitor. You should do that too if you want to use the bombsight.

I hope I could help you,

Pilot99

Just good reason for get idea how they fly more dangerous mission than fly fighter plane. In real life, bomber need to use for fly long range, high to aviod flak and carry heavy bomb load to destroy like war machine factory, railroad depot, HDQ, and ports. It is so heavy taxed on single crew pilot to fly long range bombing and more hard to fly back home with battle damage fighter. Some players want fly bombers so Oleg offer us even Starshoy made campiagns to make some players happy to play it as good challenge.
