Wow been a while since I played that game, sure noticed one thing that really made me smile... SOUND... Now to be honest, some noises were a bit crude but overall I actually felt more involved in the game because they were much better then FB. Anyway to make my point... Why did they change the sound?? I really like the older ones much better.

Well, I just loaded FB tonight and yes, the engines sound different. Not as deep. But in external view there is a noticeable doppler/timbre effect which is cool. Inside the Brewster cockpit it sounds like something metal is ready to break!

Agreed the sound is changed. For the better?....I can't yet state an opinion.

I'm sure they felt that the change was for the better. We'll wait for that thing to happen that we've been waitng to happen and see if that makes a difference.

WWII Fighters still has the best sound around. How I do miss the whine of a 109 in a low pass!

I STILL love my 109!

Alot of things were better in IL2 ... The sound, FM (flight model), trim, netcode, etc

Funny you should mention that because just tonight I decided to fire up IL2 for a change and WOW! - much better sound than FB in my opinion. Much more immersive. Why did they change it??

After spending more time getting the feel of FB I have to agree that overall the sounds in FB lack compared to IL-2.
Most noteably, the engines lack that low rumble they had in IL-2.

IL-2 is to Harley-Davidson as FB is to Kawasaki.

Also the gunfire sounds like rocks being rattled in a tin can.

I hope that thing we're waitng for fixes that.

To think I haven't actually had the chance to play FB, I sure wouldn't mind to try it on just gimmee a computer that can actually handle that game and I'll gladly give it a shot but with what I got? I'm stuck with the original for a while.

I really like the original right now, I've just completed the VVS Bomber campaign and it wasn't too bad, I just had a few problem when a lot of planes showed up at the same time during a mission but I guess that was because of my comp's limits.

The original IL-2 is awesome. The simpler engine management is less fun but lets you concentrate more on maneuvering—unfortunately a bit less real-feeling but can be nice for fun fighting. I think they simplified the sound approach in FB because of the large number of aircraft. It seems to me that "changing the sound engine completely" might not involve changing the sound files...

I still like the IL-2 flight models. I don't know enough about it, but they feel more as I would expect planes to handle: heavy and fickle. I don't hope anything specific for the patch, because what's done is done. Wish in one hand, spit in the other... we'll see how things are when we can download and install it.

Totally agree. I was dissapointed from day one with the sound in FB. I have to say that I agree with RBJ on this one. I still only play IL-2 online for those reasons and some of the ugly gaudy maps used by some FB servers. Not to mention that ridiculous Hurricane fight modelling! I'm hoping the patch will address these issues.

I'd never join a club that would have ME as a member!!.

Great sound makes a big difference as far as overall enjoyment goes, in my opinion. After all, WWII piston aircraft sound so damn cool when they come roaring by. IL2 captured this pretty well. FB does a poor job. And they sound of the machine guns firing when in the cockpit of a P40 is terrible--as bad as Combat Flight Simulator I. It's cheesy and fake-sounding.

Also, recently the inside-cockpit sound of LW planes completely cut out on my game. In external view, you can hear everything, but inside the cockpit it's quiet as a church.

D-Spade, for me that happens with the P-39. Come Wednesday it's all water under the bridge. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

Thanks guys, after playing the game (FB) I do miss those awesome "ripping sounds" of the opposing aircraft as they buzz by, Also, I might add; I miss the guns, they were essential as to making you "feel" as you were actually firing a Cannon or a MG. Problem from day one in FB, I felt the guns were "launching" rather then "firing". Thanks!
