Don't you just love it when you ask a straight question? But I'm just as bad. Usually.

There is no message as such that I know of. The TII G7e is supposed to be fixed sometime after 1940 but in my experience it never really gets fixed. In moderate to rough seas, funny areas on the maps, premature detonations still occour. Range is poor too. Magnetic detonation is unreliable. I personally use TI's exclusively until other torps become available. I just modify my tactics to take their visibility disadvantage into account. Anything but use the TII. Adm Donitz once said the TII was like using sticks to wage war. Can't say I disagree.

The TIII, also a G7e, is a better torp and is identical with gold body/blue tip. Range is 5km. Premature deonations are less than TII, magnetic detonation is reliable. It comes in early 42. You can only tell the difference by clicking on the torp and seeing it's description. I will use these.

Yes, the TI leaves a bubble trail but its fast, reliable and you know what you're getting. Good for banging into escorts when set on high speed @ 1 metre depth too. At 44 knots, nothing worth mentioning can outrun them.

Just wait until you can get the pink tip homing torps like the Zaunkoning's. TII's? what TII's? Forget them! Give me a boat full of TV(Ges) and I will deliver you a task force. On a platter. At any difficulty setting you like.

There you go...long winded but sensible answer!

By the way, i have a question;
Can i fire torpedoes at deeper depths than periscope depth? I can imagine that it would be quite useful if i've got T4/5/11's.

20m. I can fire by hydrophone bearing. Funny though, not too good using sonar.

Hey BigBuddplz,
Thats not a very nice answer, you got a reply.And just BTW, even if the Bdu sent out a message re the torps have been fixed, it won't make a scrap of difference to you, you still have a hold full of the unfixed ones.
Could you imagine what the reaction would have been by the British if they had ever intercepted a radio message telling all U-boats that they have fixed all busted torpedos?

BM, I've only ever hit once using hydrophone for targetting. Luckily it was the DD that was after me, and he had sat still to listen. Yep 20m, any deeper and my wussy crew won't do it

As far as i know all the torps in the game work as the instructions say in the game, i don't think that the prolems with the torps are replicated in the game, that is my experience anyway.

And tomas you cannot fire torpedos much lower than torpedo depth, by my crew anyway. I believe this had something to do with the complex firing mechanism back then involving compressed air and seawater intake into the tube, but i'm just talking from very vague memory of a book i read a couple of years ago.

Good luck!!

It is not easy but desperate times call for desperate measures. Works only at close ranges with target stationary or moving slowly, as you described when using normal torps, homing ones of course are easier because they self track.

Yep, its not a wussy crew, but as you say; complex mechanisms, water pressure & down to 20m. Also the boat needs to take on about a tonne of seawater thru ballast to trim the boat, replacing the fired torp or the boat will have an instant positive bouyancy and rise to the surface. That'll give the game away!
