I used to do nothing but altitude fighting, but I just got bored with the whole thing. If I'm online, I'd rather have a tight turn fight if possible.

All altitude attitude for me. Nothing better than BnZ IMO. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yup BnZ is clearly a superior tactic. I allways use it to start. Im the guy up at 3000m in the rata with the supercharger in second gear looking for 109's that never ever look up. With some creative flying you can maintain a E advantage and if worse comes to worse you slip into TnB mode http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hit & Run, Boom & Zoom hybrid.

Turn & Burn is out of the question in a Focke Wulf.

You should have a third: energy fighting option. That's how I fly I try to start w/ an alt advantage, but once the fight starts, I use vertical maneuvers to keep an energy advantage until I get in kill position. Strict BnZ can be boring and TnB is just as formulaic, if at a faster pace

Excellent point gergeo. Being a P39 specialist back in the Il2 days taught me alot about E fighting. I know for sure that I continue to use these tactics to this day. In fact there should be no cut and dried styles you should use whatever is going to save your butt while disabling the other player.

I think BnZ is the better tactic, but I've never been able to get the hang of it. I usually resort to TnB....

The trouble is, my squad officially fly VVS planes but, most of them disintegrate around 600/650 km/h. And I don't use the P-39 alot because it has very poor vision to all sides but to the front. So, I want to BnZ but, there doesn't seem to be an early-mid war VVS fighter who can handle that. For mid-late war, the P47 and P51 seems to fit my kind of fighting.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.

Yes, I am aware of energy fight, as a transition between these distinct styles. However, I deliberately avoided too many choices, because it might skew the results.

If you happen to be an E fighter, you decide what best describes your style : BnZ or TnB.

My aircraft of choice (Me-262) is by no means a turn fighter... thats a proven fact of the war. I climb and dive generally but there are times I'll push the limits and turn inside a fast moving Yak or something to offload a burst before breaking and accelerating.

I have been spending some time flying hurri's though lately and have managed to bouce some LW birds from above then break into a turning fight. turn fighting does seem more intense and fact paced, but it leaves you vulnerable to being bounced by a/c with more energy and the like.

Depending on my opponent, I'll either start high or low. Usually high. I prefer to TnB, but I try to keep superior energy.

Nothing of the 2 choice,

I don't like BnZ to do because it is boring, but I like kill the BnZ-er. Because that is the most fun.

The BnZ-er and his wingies cost much time to climb and stay high and fast. Then they make the BnZ pass and always miss, because is so easy to evade the high speed pass if SA is good.

Then maybe 30 passes later they can not have the patience anymore and then they stop BnZ and hopeful make the energy fight because that is more interesting for attacker and defender.

If not, it is always "boring & zoom" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
But some planes can only do that and nothing else.

Jimmy Giro can turn and burn in a FW. I would not have belived it unless I had seen it with my own eyes.

My P39 put up a long and hard fight at medium alt but he nailed me in the end. Best FW flier I have seen yet http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

BnZ here (E fighting and TnB only in emergency situations).

Simply, when I take off in a Fw 190, I'm there to shoot someone down, not to play with them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Usually Z&B but if the enemy is alone I'll get down an dirty. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif You'll be surprised what the FW-190 can do in a turn fight.

Depends on the plane I'm flying and the target. BnZ with a P47 or P40. Turnin' with a Mig, Yak or Zero. If you keep the E up, a 190 plays both ways, I think.

Winning isn't everything;
It's the only thing!

SmokeJag,

I'll turn 'n burn in an emergency or if my opponent is being lazy. Or if he is wounded. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But turn 'n burn has never been my style simply because bleeding off speed to do so leaves you much more vulnerable to others involved in combat. That's one of the main reasons I like hit & run, because it gives me the best chance to bring my butt home in one piece. This is especially true in offline campaigns (which I know you are into now), and that's why I find it harder to survive offline in slower VVS planes (anything but La), as good as their planes perform.

Jimmy must have been in an A-4 or A-5 as they turn fairly well, especially with flaps. The Dora also turns well with flaps but the A-8 and A-9 don't turn competitively no matter what you do. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I would love to see a few of the top 190 guys fly online. I get alot of compliments on my 190 flying and I would like to see if I am doing similar things (as a note I try to fly on servers that have as many realism options checked as possible). As much as I fly the Focke-Wulf I had better be good in it by now. Put me in another plane and I just don't feel comfortable. I have as much respect for guys that are good at T&B as for those who excel at other tactics. Many think that T&B is simply yanking the stick around but it is an art form that is very effective in skilled hands (like any tactic). Actually I think it is harder to become skilled at T&B than B&Z.

Sorry for the ramble, just felt like running my mouth for a moment.

Boom and zoom or turn and burn?

Neither

Energy fighting

my fighting style is to fly up, and if i see a enemy, fly threw them, make them come after me, fly straight and level so they chase straight and level and let my teammates get them lol... thats basically all i can do anyways...

Its a combo for me. But most of the time I stalk my prey. When I fly the p-39 q10 I like to stalk the germans up high, sneak up on them and send a 37mm up their tail. Especially that 190. Even they cant take a 37mm smacking the tail feathers. They seem to throttle back and chug along pretty slow while looking for someone to boom and zoom. I'll cut my trhottle to lower the noise and park on their six. 109s I just do the standard turn and burn if I catch them down low. Up high I stalk them too. I will even climb to 10-15,000 ft looking for them. Its dirty but hey it works. Better then being stalked by them.

Swooping down from an advantageous position onto an enemy a/c that may well be otherwise engaged holds no satisfaction value for me at all. It's akin to shooting fish in a barrel. I'd rather meet them on similar terms - i.e. the same altitude and then see what they're made of.

I tailor my style to the opponent I'm facing. If he's a turner by tendency, I'll turn fight him. If he's a B and Zer, I'll play the vertical game. I've practiced both, but I'm a turner by nature. I love the excitement of the "Tango de La Muerte" against another Ace T and Ber.

As Lixma said, bouncing engaged pilots holds no value for me either, unless I'm saving a m8, of course.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Meeting pilots on equal terms, so the man makes the difference, is why I host my Lavochkin Performance Series 1 vs 1 server. I love to face the best a pilot has to offer, when it's just me and him and the only difference is usually who makes the first mistake. Now, those are fun matches.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There's no category for E fighting unfortunately, so I'll go with TnB and BnZ, then split that down the middle.
