View Full Version : All of a sudden... I got the dreaded "Wobbles"

After spending the whole weekend being "hockey dad" I was offline trying to finish off a capaign in a P-40 over Stalingrad when I noticed something was real odd. I went into autopilot to go to the bathroom (stop snickering you louts) when I came back to take the stick the next thing I knew my nose was all over the place.

It calmed down after a bit but when I went to line up on some bombers, wham!!! It hit me again. Sooo I came back here. I read up on the Config ini fix. I altererd the Z-axis file and I'll see if that helps when I get home tonight. Frightening if I say so myself.

I do wonder if i get the wobbles. Everything for most of the time seems to be ok, but sometimes i think something funny is going on now and again. With the bombers i too notice wobble occasionally. is it something i am doing? is it prop wash from the bombers? (is that even modelled?) or is it the dreadded wobbles?

How old is your joystick.
It might be getting a bit sticky. I used to get this when the pots were wearing out. To get around this wobble the joystick fast over all axis. This is only a temporary fix as they'll need replacement. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Thank GOD you didn't get the "WOBBLES" when you were in the can!!!!!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif Now that would've been disturbing!!

In all the posts about the deaded wobbles, I've yet to see anyone post a track. It would help people know the difference between this problem and the "normal" yaw oscillations that have been intoduced into the fm.

I've posted several...i'm sorry you missed them.

I've still got one hosted: http://home.cogeco.ca/~cczerneda/Bobble47.TRK

The trouble is showing the problem. You'll see some pretty nasty sway there but you don't see half of what hte problem is...its with the joystick control.

A 1% throw on the stick is equal to 100% throw in-game (regardless, inspite of, and irrespective of any joystick settings, config.ini variables, or voodoo magics) so what happens is that every move you make in the aircraft induces incredible lack of fine control. You CAN achieve the same effects if you slammed your joystick around violently in a normal non-wobbly version.

My solution was to do a drastic series of steps involving a re-download and re-install of the patch. Once I did this my control was restored.

Have a look at the track...it unfortunately does not show (I haven't devised a way to do it) the full extent of the problem but you should see me having great difficulty correcting onto the various aircraft I was shooting at.

That track is what I have currently in game.

I warned you guys that its hard to show...but nobody listens.

You have to experience it to know the three kinds of hell that it is.

Thanks IceFire, glad to finally see what it looks like. I changed the view and tried to watch your inputs on stick and rudder, but it's hard to tell what's really happening since it's the discrepancy between what you're inputing and what the game is outputting that's causing the problem.

The oscillations your track shows are the same as I have, but I don't think I have the wobbles since the stick and rudder inputs I feed into the game when flying seem to be reasonably represented in the game. The nose does hunt around to find its centre though on any rudder input and I assume this is supposed to represent yaw oscillations in the new fm.

Has Oleg made any comment at all on this phenomenon?? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Tried the Config.ini fix and that didn't help. Tried the P4 Dll delete and that has helped some. I'll have to wait until I can fly a little more to see if this has really fixed the problem or I may just have to do a clean install and patch up to get this thing back on track.

Here is my track (.trk) I just made with P-47D, afaik plane responds to inputs no different than on IceFire's track.
