Because the devs confirmed it months ago...

Did you consider incorporating a co-operative mode into the single-player?

VP: We have a problem with co-op. We did consider it, but the thing is, we’ve been considering it since the first Assassin’s Creed. We haven’t justified it yet, and in our universe everything is justified. A subject wouldn’t be able to have two ancestors at the same time. It just doesn’t work in that world. We’re justifying the multiplayer with the Templar universe. That allows us a brand new range of options to tell a different story. We’ll find a way for co-op. It’s going to be there for sure… eventually.

All it confirms is that there won't be co-op, but nothing about split-screen.

To answer original question, as far as I know, there hasn't been any info about it, but I'm doubt it'll have it.

there's been a bunch of threads about this, so I'll be brief. The only viable form of splitscreen you could have in an AC game is a cooperative mode. You can't really do versus gameplay in splitscreen because of the screen-looking issue.

It's very doubtful that it'll appear in DLC form for Split-Screen/Co-Op would take a lot of time and effort to incorporate into a game. However this a Co-Op esque mode in multi-player, where you're sorted into teams of two. There's just no drop in, drop out co-op like you would have in Dead Rising 2.

Maybe in ACIII

Multiplayer could have a splitscreen for just two players in alliance mode then screen looking would not be an issue because the person sharing your screen would be on your team.

Splitscreen is good for casual gamers and can be enjoyed by pro gamers too. I think though that it is good for this game to get splitscreen if it happeneds. People just like to complain http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif that it will ruin the game but it definitely won't. I think it will increase it's popularity and make the game more enjoyable http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif and i think it's something Ubisoft should do. I also hope they add it badly http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif .

They won't add it as DLC, and certainly not now, as they've aready started producing the copies for shipment.

You say that split screen won't ruin the game? Perhaps not if it was to be used in Alliance mode ONLY. Adding it in Wanted, or any other free-for-all type hunter-hunted mode, WOULD ruin it, because what would be the piont of being stealthy and SEARCHING for your target, we you can see where they are on the map by looking at their half of the screen?

It would be much better if they put split-screen in alliance mode...cuz i know almost no one will want to kill with the one in his group...so if u have a bro or u can invite ur friend,u can team up and it would be much better

@elizabethcreed Splitscreen is a ton of extra effort, and comes with a significant cost to graphical quality. We focused efforts elsewhere.

From @UbiGabe's twitter. This is why.

System link is pretty much a given. I mean, how else would you be able to play Multi at events?
