There is only one defect in the LUFT 46 concept, and correct me if I'm wrong, but...weren't those fascinating Sov jets based on knowledge the Sovs gained from examining captured German jets? Of course, it can be bought just for the Ar 234. I'd rather have had aircraft that really almost got into the war like the Meteor, Vampire, and Lear Jet.

I wonder if they would do the barrage balloon without the lookout and Iron Cross?... they could also do a windsock similar...ok it would be static, one horizontal and one pointing down.

looking forward to the Ar234, and I'll buy it just for that, the objects are cool but the rest of it's largely uninteresting.

Still don't get all this fantasy stuff when they could have just done a Tempest +11lb (and would have happily paid for that) or other real aircraft instead. Oh well.

Mission creep. Sheesh.

Are those documents on the workstation historically correct? Whats in the crates? And will we ever get cows?

We need some answers...

Agree!
Here is a quota from a finnish pilot

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">

You used to carry fragmentation bombs when on patrol ?

Antti Tani: Yes, they were 12.5 kg bombs. I carried them almost every time. There were some scrambles when I did not have any time to have them loaded on. I dropped them here and there, and once I dropped them and received 12 holes. It was a close shave. Luckily the engine was not hit. The wings were full of holes and two exhaust pipes had been ripped off. A splinter had swept the side of the engine, cutting them. I turned around and flew homeward for five minutes, all the time waiting for the oil temperature to go up. But during the five minutes the oil temperature did not change, I turned back and caught up with the rest of the formation.

Did you carry bonbs after that ?

Antti Tani: I did, every time. When there was a mission I always had bombs with me. It was interesting to drop them, for instance there was a village farther beyond Lake Onega where there were cows. Before bombing I saw there were women among the cattle. I dived and fired a brief burst to the side. As the women had ran away I dropped the bombs on the cows. I had warned the women to get out of the way, and they would have beef to eat. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Seriously, the whole article is a good read:

Explosives I hope!!!
In the 'Screaming Demons over Europe' game the crates would explode when you shot them. I have longed for a feature like this in the game for a long time. It makes ground attacks much more fun if you can blow a few things up....and I mean really blow up - not the puny fires we get now if we hit a fuel container.

I want explosions...big bloody great whopping explosions with debris raining down afterwards.
I want the ground to shake. That's what I got this game for!

Logically these things should be in the stationary objects menu, in which case you could assign them as targets and at least the bombs should explode.

No, even if the war had continued both tanks wouldn€t have been produced. The Panther II was more or less dead in the beginning of 1944. And the turret of the model is wrong anyway. The so called €˜Schmalturm€ was for the Panther Ausf. F and had nothing to do with the Panther II.

Not so many sheep these days. The drought takes care of that. Got plenty of flies though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I thought the cow thing would be a good addition to FMB. As well as giving the maps some much needed life, it'd also give a further sense of scale and height perception.
And just think! After a hard days work, you could slip into a Ju87G1 and go Bessie busting too http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I can understand trying to sell us yet another addon with a bunch of planes and objects but here is a thought..

How about finishing off the Pacific Theatre with the proper planes and maps and fix some of the more annoying bugs. Damage Models really need to be looked at as well as several aircraft need performance tweaking. There is a lot left over from the other zillion addons and planes over the last few years. How about the AI which is really goofy right now?

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Description:
"46" is a full-featured add-on for Il-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters.

The final add-on in the Il-2 series, 46, is a door to the future. It focuses on hypothetical battles between the Soviet Union and Germany in the year 1946 where WWII still rages on. Both the VVS and Luftwaffe now have access to advanced jet and rocket fighters, revolutionary designs that only existed on the drawing board in 1945.

<span class="ev_code_red">The player will be able to fly such incredible aircraft as the MiG-9 jet fighter, the predecessor to the famous MiG-15 that gained world-wide fame in the Korean War; the Ta-183, a jet fighter designed by Kurt Tank, the creator of the famous FW-190, and the Arado Ar-234 Blitz, the world€s first operation jet bomber.</span>

The add-on will also include a large historical map of the Kiev region, which will be useful both for the 1946 scenarios, as well as modeling the historical battles for Kiev that took place in 1941 and 1944. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
(emphasis added)

Here's why.

They are done with the Pacific and I think that either by obligation (perhaps with Ubi) or by preference they have chosen to mostly go around it. We have alot of the Pacific, not everything, and alot of things simply aren't possible at this time.

You CANNOT and I emphasize this...ask them to continue to tweak damage models and flight models and fix those kinds of "bugs" because thats an ongoing process that will never end. Never. What you think is a problem a half dozen other people think is correct. There are problems but I think most of them have accepted them and moved on. The ones that we take issue with we're reporting and they do get fixed. But you can't say...no don't release this...fix this. Because they can't do that because nobody will ever be happy and it'll be going on till the sun explodes.

The AI is something you can work on but you either need to re-write from scratch to make better, suck more CPU cycles to make it more detailed, and or invest a ton of R&D into more sophisticated AI. Notice that AI has not gotten much better over the years as all its doing these days is coping with more sophisticated environments. I have not yet seen one game, even the ones that supposedly have good AI, that actually has a smart AI...they are dumb as posts. They may in some games fool you into thinking they are smart but they aren't.

So I'm sorry but I strongly disagree with you. I think those are not relevant points with regards to putting or not putting together an addon package. I totally agree with you that those things would be fantastic to work on...but the simple fact is that they already have been working on them for years and nobody will ever be fully satisfied. Most of the problems we complain about now pale in comparison to the issues we had 2 or even 3 years ago. We've come a long way but people sometimes have short term memories. Take a look back...we've made big progress.

I for one am not like all of you who are leery of these next two addons. The Manchuria addon adds a ton of "**** planes", a new and untouched theater (in any WWII sim that I know of), and many missing Japanese aircraft. The 1946 addon gives us some great almost Korea like scenarios...while they haven't given us Korea...many of you have asked for it and while I realize its not the same (I'd love to hop into an F-86 sometime) its definately in the same realm...take joy in being able to hop in and try these aircraft out. Worst case scenario...we get a fantastic map to use historically (Ukraine) and some missing planes that are useful in other scenarios that are historical (Ar-234 for instance) and just go from there.

Now its your informed decision if you look at all that, say its not for you, and exercise your right as a consumer not to buy the product. That is a decision I respect...but if the product is good (and I think it is) and you love flying and flight simming and so on and so forth...hop in and try it out. Maybe its because I'm younger than most of you I tend to keep an open mind? I don't know...I see alot of revulsion and reversion for no apparent reason.

Ok...I apologise...my rant is now over.
