On page 28 of the codex, Altair writes that "in small doses, and with a focused mind, the apple can be used without ill effect."

Does anyone know what he's talking about? Was there anything written in the Codex pages that I've missed?

Its highly possible, too much power and you get addicted.

Another thing about the codex, how did Altair know how to make a clockwork gun in 1100, no guns, doupt even gunpowder was invented back then.

Actually, he speaks in the codex how the technology is not new at all, and is presently used in the East (china). He says the only think which he discovered is how to down size the firearm technology and use it with a more potent gunpowder.

the Chinese started using the chemicals that make up black powder from the 1st century AD and have actually documented the final explosive around 400-500AD.

I don't think Altair was talking about a gun you carry (can't read the codex right now to check as I've turned the game off), but I think he was talking about cannons (which had been used in China with gunpowder a couple hundred years before. But he says that he need some help to make it, refering to the Apple, which from other pages suggested it had some ability to allow the user to see glimpses of the future.

I put more detail to it adding more perspective of how long before 1100AD it actually happened http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

any1 can tell you it was the Chinese who made it, this is more a question of when.

I thought he got the design of the Hidden Gun from the Apple http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif. I mean, that's where he got the design for his Infinity Plus One armour.

No, I think it was more that he learned from the apple what he needed to design such a weapon.

Seeing as the apple and it's creators obviously aren't limited by time (seeing as it shows a modern day map and Minerva knows about Desmond) he could have very well been shown how a modern day firearm works, and then transcribed it into his design for the hidden gun.

He even says he created a more potent gunpowder than that used by the Eastern firearms; and modern day guns don't use the standard black powder from the East, but a newer, more powerful derivative of it.
